6. I think you answered that question in OP.
Who knows how many scientific projects, for example, have been squelched in the rush to give out faith-based, abstinence-only funding?

As for political ideas, we can't forget our old friend the media, who will make out that you're a serial killer if you suggest that rampant, unbridled capitalism might not be the best way to run the world. You'll find people tend to keep the good ideas quiet when faced with a response like that.

I'm not sure from your posts whether you're actually asking DUers to offer ideas in this thread.

7. Unless You Make Billions Immediate, No One Wants It
Over the past decade, I've had the fun to live in the world of investing...making money in helping others get their ideas off the ground. Or at least that was my hopes.

It still amazes me how either easy or hard both money and ideas flow and how inter-related they are. In the late 90, anything with a www attached to it drew money like white on rice. It didn't matter if there was a serious business plan attached, as long as it "sounded" like it'd make money (meaning it could be used to bait the IPO mavens) that's all that counted. In most cases, this was a big shell game where day traders were hopping on every IPO in sight and the big brokerage houses were suckering 'em with all sorts of offerings that made the principals rich and eventually led to the dot com bust.

Now, the pendulum has swung the other way. Money is tight and getting tighter. We're not seeing the speculation we did a decade ago, but we're also not seeing any of the innovation.

Repugnican never have solutions. NEVER! They only have notions and poor ones at that. What they DO have is a great PR office that can turn shit into gold. They have "jobbed the refs" in the media so thoroughly that the perception is that Democrats are void of ideas. Not ideas...just spine.

Also, the attention span of many Democrats are that of a fruit fly. They can't find and stay on an issue long enough and easily get pushed off their original point by the GOOP spin machine. Hopefully we're starting to see some fighting Dems out there that are about to change that culture within the Democratic party and then revolutionize politics overall.

Have some poi and stay tuned my friend...

21. Check this out...
Imitating the Gestapo, Imitating Stalin

snip...

Conservative Totalitarianism

Ending torture will have a major impact beyond torture itself for a simple reason: as slavery was the linchpin to the entire pre-bellum Southern social order, torture has become integral to today's conservative ideology. Conservative ideology was once a coherent set of ideas built around limiting state power over the individual. It has today degenerated into a rationale for expanding executive power over the individual, including not only the right to torture but the right to spy on citizens, wage aggressive war while lying about it, prevent gay people from marrying, deny a woman the right to an abortion, publish disguised government propaganda in the media, and even deny us the right to die in peace if conservatives decree that we must live as vegetables or in unendurable pain.

It is no coincidence that the executive's right to torture was defended not ony by Bush and Cheney, but also by conservative ideologues at The Weekly Standard, financed by media mogul Rupert Murdoch and edited by William Kristol, who published a cover story by Charles Krauthammer -- widely admired in conservative circles -- which declared that "we must all be prepared to torture" to save American lives. Or that the The National Review opined that "if McCain's amendment becomes law ... we will then be able to apply only methods formulated to deal with conventional soldiers in a different sort of conflict than the one that faces us now. This is folly."

Today's conservative movement has been reduced to a set of impulses, above all a totalitarian impulse to support the expansion of autocratic power it was founded to restrain. Since its ideological blinders prevent it from developing sensible measures to reduce terrorism, it has turned to justifying only those policies that expand executive power and seek to rule through coercion, threats, and violence.

Whatever a movement to abolish torture will achieve for society, it is clear what participating in it means for each of us as individuals. It means above all that our children and grandchildren will not remember us with shame, that they will not one day have to try to justify to our victims our failure to oppose the torture being conducted in our names, and that the term "good Americans" will mean just that, and not become an excuse for fear or indifference. MORE...

Are you more proud today, of being an American, than you were 6 years ago?

22. Solutions? Answers to Questions??????
Every time that a Republican says on a web forum, where is the Democratic Party solution to ___________ problem? I always say the following:

First, every problem that we have in society today has been caused by a Republican. I point out that the White House, the Congress, the Supreme Court, and every bureaucracy is controlled by that party. Therefore, not one problem today is caused by a Democrat.

Second, why is the Dem party accountable for solving the problems that they did not cause?

Third, and most significantly, where is the Republican solution to the problems they have caused???

WHY ARE THE REPUBLICANS NOT BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE TROUBLES THEY CAUSE?

When faced with these questions, the Republicans all clam up. Therefore, you should hit them with the same questions.

25. That I have done, with re to your last question. Why are they hiding the
Solutions/answers to our Probs Nationally and Globally?

THEY HAVE NO ANSWERS....only Blame others and EXCUSES...such is the GOP.

They ask "Where is the Dem Solution to this or that".....this means they have run out of their own answers and are looking for OURS??

I thought they were in charge?

If they are in charge and cannot provide answers then they oughta be fired....thats what they do in Football. The GOP has sustained a 6 year losing period.....what would the NFL do?

26. The NFL would dropkick the losers through the goalposts of life.
Because losers don't sell tickets! Losers don't generate income for anyone but themselves. A loser ain't a team player! BUSH IS A LIFELONG LOSER! If his daddy hadn't stacked the SCOTUS with anti-American crooks and skunks, Bush would have still been in Texas losing where he belonged.
