My son just called and asked if I knew about this. He was reading USA today on lunch and saw the full page ad.

10. Here's how to do it -- for future reference:
Place your cursor over the image you'd like to copy and right click. It will bring up a little menu window. The second option in that window is "copy image location", (left) click on that. Then go back to your DU message window and right click again, then click on "paste" in the little menu window.

I always use the "preview" function before I post, just to make sure I've successfully copied whatever it is I'm wanting to copy. If the preview shows that you've done it, then hit post and there you go!

13. I think it's pretty far out that US Today actually ran the ad.
So many print outlets today simply just refuse to run ads if their corporate masters think they're just too "controversial".

Thank you so much for posting about this -- I wouldn't have known about it otherwise. Hope your son brings you a hard copy, too!

Congress is powerless to absolve Bush of capital crimes and torture charges

Bush is in a heap of trouble. The US Congress should be impeaching Bush —NOT conspiring with him to cover his backside!

Whatever torture compromise may work its way through an intimidated Congress, it cannot help Bush. The US Constitution requires nothing less than a Constitutional Amendment to relieve US obligations under the Geneva convention; and, at least one Constitutional provision means that nothing legal can get Bush off the hook for the crimes that he has already committed.

Let's take the second one first. Bush seeks an ex post facto law that will make legal —after the fact —his violations of the Geneva Convention having to do with torture.

No bill of attainder or ex post facto Law shall be passed.

That means that Bush cannot commit crimes, possibly including having ordered summary executions and brutal tortures, only to have them made legal later on. The Constitution flatly states that it doesn't work that way! I've been screaming about this for a long time now. Maybe the time has come to be vindicated:

George Washington University Professor and Countdown resident Constitutional expert Jonathan Turley joined Keith tonight to discuss the legal implications of President Bush’s proposed changes to Article III of the Geneva Conventions. Keith raises an obvious yet seldom mentioned point: Is the Bush administration trying to retroactively legalize crimes it very well may have already committed? Wouldn’t be the first time.

37. I just purchased a USA Today in San Francisco. There is NO AD!!!
Quarter page, half page, full page. Nada. Nothing.

I had a couple of vacation days to schedule. I've taken October 5 and 6. I can think of NOTHING BETTER to do with those days then join the protests. See you in Seattle!!!

40. It is our right and it is our duty. This government has NEVER supported
the best interests of its citizens. This government OVERWHELMINGLY coddles and caters to its masters, chiefly the Texas Petroleum Mafia and the Military/Industrial Complex. The bush* mis-administration will best be remembered for corporate looting on an unprecedented level. bush* and darth cheney don't belong in the White House or Blair House. They belong in prison cells.

42. It was in yesterday's paper, the 20th..that is if he was reading
yesterday's paper last night. He didn't bring it home with him..said he'd borrowed it from another employee to read during lunch.

I'm excited about this. Hoping DH and I can make it to Columbus.

47. The picture, the beauty of a full page ad and the thanks to these
people is beyond my wildest appreciation. But the wording is just too complex and subliminal for a large contingent of the readership to realize the messages being conveyed here.

God, I wish they would have used simple words explaining the felonies and not one subpoena being issued or hearing held. It could have been blockbuster.

That wasn't cheap to run. It's going to go over so many peoples heads.

But I sure do thank them for this effort.
