(sigh) Katie's idea of a lead story...
People taking their dogs to work. How far down is CBS going to sink? And who was the idiot who thought Katie was the best choice for evening news anchor?

(sigh) Back in the old days, we used to count on the evening news to catch us up on what had been happening during the day around the globe. Now we get stories about taking employers who think its all right to take your dog to work with you. How pathetic can this get?

Or not. We'll see what happens when her ratings not only get into the toilet, they get flushed.

That they should run Katie at the same time, otherwise, they look really damn stupid.

Dan Rather must have a drinking problem by now. I would be if this perky pinhead replaced me.

And, by the way, WHAT IN THE HELL is up with Cronkite defending Katie? Is it some sort of misguided chivalry? Made me wanna puke.

I keep having a persistent memory that he asked some hard questions from his non-anchor perch just before the war...

I think Walter is aware of what is happening. My bet is that he did the intro out of nostalgia for his days at CBS, nothing more.

But then I don't know...

16. Last I heard, she wants to extend the evening news to an hour. . .
Just think what wonderful stories she'll be able to cover -- cats at work, maybe, or if we're really lucky a double-dollop of Rush Limbaugh.

It's been said before, but it can't be said enough: Turn it off. You'll be healthier and more informed if you seek you news somewhere other than the Evening Gabfest with (insert interchangeable moron here).

Petition your Legislators to make cable television payable on a per channel basis, so you can deny CNN and Fox and the rest entry to your box at the outset.

It's the only way these corporations are going to change, if we can prove it's costing them to be vapid. Anything less is sure to be misconstrued.

60. One reason dogs sniff butts because there is not sufficient
sexual dimorphism among dogs to identify a potential mate by looks.

Also, dogs have such an amazing sense of smell that they can tell all sorts of things by sniffing butts--just as they collect information by sniffing everything else in their environment.

Can I get my own news program now?

There ain't no way she's going anywhere though. CBS paid her BIG BUCKS, so she's going to sink or swim, but she's going to do it for a long time to come.

My goal is to NEVER have to watch her show, NOT EVEN ONCE. It's a complete and utter waste of my time.

That's going to be on the Cute Broadcasting System Nooze next month when her ratings are in the tank.

I tried watching one show and it is really difficult stuff. She says stuff like "Hey, that's the..." and half-kicks Bob Schieffer in the nuts with chuckling nuggets like "You'll get credit for that..."

Not only would Edward R. Murrow roll over in his grave, but he'd firmly put his hands around Katie's neck until she turned blue...

Usually you do pet stories in the kicker (or final story), not the lead...oi...

Twice this week Bob Schieffer was featured as a scoop reporter and as an opinion piece. Why is he sticking around to help KC out of the basement?

BTW, she was wearing another version of Pickles scratchy out of date wool suit tonight.

I could not believe she is still sitting on the news desk. Someone at CBS must be smitten with her to put up with this behavior.

It can make you cry watching how it's all devolved into the info-tainment we have now. 57. Don't be so sure her ratings will tank.
Network TV news has already lost well over half its collective audience since the days of Richard Nixon:

In the previous editions of this report, we have illustrated the decline in viewership for the nightly network newscasts by using two landmarks: 1969, the historic peak of nightly news viewership, and 1980, the launch of the cable news network CNN. In 1969, the three commercial nightly network newscasts had a combined 50 rating and an 85 share. In 1980, they had a 37 rating and a 75 share. Based on November data for 2005, ratings have fallen 62% since 1969 and 48% since 1980. Share has fallen 56% since 1969 and 51% since 1980.

http://www.stateofthenewsmedia.org/2006/narrative_networktv_audience.asp?cat=3&media=5

There are a lot reasons for this -- the advent of cable and the internet being the two most obviously significant ones.

The decision to hire Couric for this spot was the culmination of the trend -- the news "show" of Cronkite is dead. Conceivably a fluffier confection might hold an audience together.

The right answer is not to watch this crap.
