Declaration of Peace, in Italy, too!
Hi all,

just to let you know, our group, U.S. Citizens for Peace & Justice in Rome will be participating in the week of actions for the Declaration of Peace. On Saturday, we'll join local Italian groups for a protest at a clulster bombs factory just outside of Rome.

No War, No Cluster Bombs

Protest at Cluster Bomb Factory in Colleferro
In solidarity with the "Declaration of Peace"

Saturday, Sept 23, 2006, 4pm
Piazza Italia, Colleferro

Just outside Rome in the town of Colleferro, is Simmel Difesa SpA, a munitions manufacturer and producer of cluster bombs. On Saturday, September 23, USC4P&J will join local Italian groups at a protest against war, militarization and production of these doubly deadly weapons.

A single cluster bomb, with its submunitions, or bomblets, will kill and maim indiscriminately in an area of up to 1 sq km. But the killing continues long after the bombardment. With a "dud" rate of up to 40%, many of the submunitions fail to explode on impact, becoming in effect land mines. Cluster bombs have been used in Kosovo, Afghanistan, Iraq and most recently in Lebanon, where the U.N. has estimated there are over 100,000 unexploded bomblets.

I'm bummed that this worthy post of yours didn't get more attention. :(

4. Thanks, but...
...no worries. The important thing is we've brought attention to the Declaration of Peace here in Italy. In fact, our press release focused on that. But I'll take all the k&r-ing I can get ;-)
