Allen did not directly answer a panelist's question on his lineage but sternly criticized her for asking about religion.

Speaking with The Times-Dispatch, Allen said the disclosure is "just an interesting nuance to my background." He added, "I still had a ham sandwich for lunch. And my mother made great pork chops."

A leader of Richmond's Jewish community, Ric Arenstein, was disturbed by the timing of Allen's announcement.

"This story has been rumored and raised with him repeatedly," said Arenstein, a former president of the Jewish Federation of Richmond who has ties to both political parties. "I guess it troubles me that he cares so little about his lineage that he waited until it was irrefutable."

He's saying it's not relevant, yet at the same time he says that suggesting he has Jewish heritage is "casting aspersions" (like saying he has a gambling problem or something), calling Webb campaign people "anti-Semitic", all the while spinning like mad trying to be as non-Jewish as possible (by eating pork, aparently).

Hypocricy at its worst, not to mention projection regarding the casting aspersions thing, seeing as how he's calling Webb people anti-Semites now. This would be funny if it weren't so damn sad.

I distinctly recall going out for brunch in NYC with some friends, who are Jewish. As the only Gentile, I was debating the social etiquette of ordering bacon with my Belgian waffle when, lo and behold, one of them did the same! Problem solved -- and that puts the fork, so to speak, to the theory that consumption of pork products somehow immunizes Sen. Macaca against the "aspersion" of being Jewish.

...unless he is ASHAMED of it, as only a bigot might be. All indications are that Allen is ashamed that his mother was born an African Jewess!

His attempts to deny this by saying she embraced Christianity and served ham and pork chops to her family are pathetic. So too is his claim that he only learned recently that his maternal grandfather was Jewish.

The only bright spot I can see in this mess is that there will now be a lot of voters in Virginia who will think twice before voting for this fool.
