Hugo Chavez Address to the United Nations
Address to the United Nations

Rise Up Against the Empire

By HUGO CHAVEZ

Representatives of the governments of the world, good morning to all of you. First of all, I would like to invite you, very respectfully, to those who have not read this book, to read it.

Noam Chomsky, one of the most prestigious American and world intellectuals, Noam Chomsky, and this is one of his most recent books, 'Hegemony or Survival: The Imperialist Strategy of the United States.'" "It's an excellent book to help us understand what has been happening in the world throughout the 20th century, and what's happening now, and the greatest threat looming over our planet.

The hegemonic pretensions of the American empire are placing at risk the very survival of the human species. We continue to warn you about this danger and we appeal to the people of the United States and the world to halt this threat, which is like a sword hanging over our heads. I had considered reading from this book, but, for the sake of time," "I will just leave it as a recommendation.

It reads easily, it is a very good book, I'm sure Madame you are familiar with it. It appears in English, in Russian, in Arabic, in German. I think that the first people who should read this book are our brothers and sisters in the United States, because their threat is right in their own house.

The devil is right at home. The devil, the devil himself, is right in the house.

"And the devil came here yesterday. Yesterday the devil came here. Right here." "And it smells of sulfur still today.

Yesterday, ladies and gentlemen, from this rostrum, the president of the United States, the gentleman to whom I refer as the devil, came here, talking as if he owned the world. Truly. As the owner of the world.

I think we could call a psychiatrist to analyze yesterday's statement made by the president of the United States. As the spokesman of imperialism, he came to share his nostrums, to try to preserve the current pattern of domination, exploitation and pillage of the peoples of the world.

dang I wish some American politician had the guts to do this.

12. Do you ever wonder...
Do you ever wonder how a leftist Chavez could ally himself with Ahmadinejad? Who is clearly more far to the right than Bush is on most issues. All they have in common is an opposition to the United States, and that is about it. Ahmadinejad is not concerned with democracy, peace, or helping his people. I guess it is debateable whether Chavez is either, but at least he claims to be and puts some programs in place to. The fact that Chavez would support someone like Ahmadinejad just shows he's more out for attention than anything else. I was a fan of Chavez when he was first elected, I thought he could bring hope to the people of his country, but it seems now like he is more concerned with creating a spectacle and being an international celebrity than anything else. All three of these world leaders(I use that term loosely for Bush, Chavez, and Ahmadinejad) have all made a mockery of the U.N. and should be ashamed of themselves.

It seems to me that all three of these leaders have very little in common as far as goals and ideology.

Ahmadinejad: Wants a completely Muslim state ruled by Sharia law. This is about as totalitarian and anti-democratic as it gets. His perfect state would be no economic development, no human rights or democracy, and people sitting around memorizing the Koran. Very productive indeed...

Bush: We all know that Bush is a complete lunatic. He wants to control the world through imperialism and Jesus. Very low sense of democracy or human rights, but maybe a little higher than Ahmadinejad. Bush basically would like to turn the world into one big wal-mart/church. So Bush is similar to Ahmadinejad, because he wants his people to sit around memorizing religious text, but they would have to drive an SUV that gets 4 mpg and buy their text from a superstore that imports them from China.

Chavez: This man is the ADD child out of the bunch. He constantly has to have all eyes on him. He will self preserve at all costs, even if that means not actually doing much for his people so that he can think up wise cracks about someone who is unpopular at the time.

But seriously Ahmadinejad and the rest of the Islamic world want nothing to do with Socialism. Socialism implies equality, which isn't a high priority with Ahmadinejad, ask the women there, better yet don't because if they answer you they will get their heads cut off.

Im done listening to all these people make a mockery of an international body that was set up to solve problems. When are these people actually talk about the issues that really need to be addressed? The PEOPLE of all these countries will bear the consequences of their stupidity.

14. Did you ever wonder how FDR could do the same with Stalin?
World Wars make strange bedfellows. And the next frontline of this one appears to be Iran.

17. How did that end up working out?
Edited on Wed Sep-20-06 02:27 PM by Nebraska_Liberal
The alliance between the Americans and the Soviets? Oh yeah, IT ALMOST ENDED THE WORLD! These leaders need to learn their history, this alliance benefits neither, and only makes them loo foolish.

Or don't you think defeating Nazi Germany was worth making common cause for a little while with the Soviet Union?

24. It ended up working out well while FDR was alive. It defeated fascism.
It's unfortunate that FDR was followed by Truman, who liked the idea of a divided Germany, and Eisehower, who liked the Dulles brothers.

If Bush hates the guy, you know he must be doing something right.

And was it just me, or has Venezuela's outspoken prez launched his own book club, with apologies to Oprah? (Great flippin' Dobbs, I love Photoshop...)

23. Chavez Nailed It! He Called Out The Devil On It's Own Turf
I have Never Read Such an Accurate and Eloquent Speech.
full of positive workable solutions for our planet

That's Why Smirk and Snarl Have to Take Him Out

He's a direct threat to them and their elite bosses

He shines the light of truth on their very dark pretense
exposing their lies and violence and greed.

I am struck by two thoughts

(1) I fear for his safety the way I wish I had been old enough
to fear for the safety of the Kennedy brothers and MLK

(2) I, more than anything in the world, want to find a way
to move to Venezuela and be a part of what he is creating

31. Probably
folks are just getting in and having heard all about this from the MSM noise machine will want to read it for themselves.

I heard three different analysis on NPR today all with their not so unique spin on what was said and the reasons Chavez said what he said. Of course they're bullshit was all targeted on how over the top chavez was and what a grandstander Chavez was and how this was very undiplomatic and so on ad nauseam.

It was a great case study in how to manufacture opinion and showed once again how NPR is far more dangerous in it's manipulations than the obvious distortions of Faux and It's ilk.
