Apparent random highway shooting outside D.C...

I admit, I'm a little concerned about this. It brings back too many bad memories from the sniper shooting hell we lived through a few years back.

It's definitely strange:


Truck Driver Injured in Shooting on I-395

No one wants to use the term "sniper." The word has some fairly ugly connotations in the Washington area.

But someone took a shot at a dump truck rolling down northbound Interstate 395 in the Alexandria area yesterday morning, piercing a passenger-side window and driving a shard of glass into the driver's right arm, state police said. The driver was not seriously hurt.

1. So far it's an isolated incident

It could have been an accident or a person with a personal axe to grind. If a pattern develops then worry, until then just be aware and keep your eyes open.

2. Meh, there are five or seven here a day

Crime is back in the Big Easy. Rest easy you only have one. FIVE men were shot last week in front of my office, in the very same spot where four died two months ago. Today? More drug dealing right there, as if nothing happened.

Watching the news at lunch, twin brothers were shot to death with an AK-47 and their car ran into a building, just now.

DC seems like Mayberry in comparison.

3. No, it's no Mayberry...

Just recently there was a young girl (about 17) who was gunned down on the street. She had been holding an infant, who she quickly shoved under a vehicle to protect it from her attackers once she saw them open fire. That's just one small example, it's a pretty violent place.

Random shootings on a major highway during rush hour in the suburbs is something different though.
