Stars & Stripes letter: Our leaders are naked!
Edited on Wed Sep-20-06 11:17 AM by lebkuchen
Two letters in today's Stars & Stripes underscore the frustration the military family is feeling with the lunatic Bush administration. Excerpts are below, along with hyperlinks to past letters, grouped into Parts I and II.

Our leaders are naked

I am sure everybody remembers the story of the emperor and his new clothes. It took a young child to tell the emperor he was naked because none of the adults had the backbone to do it.

I see a strong correlation in today’s political situation and, although at half a century I am no youngster, I feel the need to play the role of the little boy in the fable. President Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld, et al., you are all naked!

Poor planning in the trenches

Finally, a plan that makes some sense comes to the forefront in the war against “looters, insurgents, terrorism, civil war, al-Qaida” in Iraq. Since my time in Iraq, I have often wondered when Defense Department officials would reveal their master plan. Now, when Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld is the target of a congressional insurgency, the genius is unveiled. I believe that everyone knew the trenches were coming, but no one wanted to spoil the secret. It was the obvious next step in a grand design.

1. Great letters. They are naked.
This Cabal has been systematically DESTROYING our military, with military families bearing the BRUNT of this destructiveness. I'm glad these families are fighting back.

4. Go to see this film when it comes near you and show you support them...

This is an excellent film that I saw at a DOD school reunion in 2005 that really does a good job at appealing to the families of military folks, since it helps build a community of "brats". It does so with a progressive perspective too. I'm sure that's why Kris Kristoferson as much as his union contract enabled him to donated his time in doing narration and also its music, since he was a military brat himself and believed in this project.

The film likens the military at one point to a form of socialism (thought it doesn't make that point heavily to turn people off) in that people are provided for with housing costs, reduced costs of goods in commissary, etc. and that the community has been truly integrated way before America was after the civil rights upheavels in the 60's. I know the director and one of the producers, and it would serve us well as it would serve them to help them get more brats to watch this film. One of every 10 people in this country is part of a brats family of some sort. That's a large set of voters folks!

For San Diego residents, try to make one of two showings the following week and get any military folks attending there to know that you care about them and their votes.

If you go to the film festival, note that another good film "GI Jesus" (on a hispanic Iraqi veteran) is showing the following night at 8 PM as well, or at 3 PM on Thursday as well.
