Conservatives Offer Ridiculous Logic To Suggest Republican Win In November
<snip>

Levin added, with typical hyperbolic flourish, that conservative Republicans didn't need support from "mental patients" (aka moderates and liberals) to retain control of the House and Senate.

The rant might rally the troops. But their logic is ridiculous. A look at polls over the past 10 days show Bush's agenda had an approval rating of 37% to 44% -- an average of 40.4%.

so it can't be assumed

fact is, levin/limbaugh don't care about the facts. I doubt they're counting on diebold.

4. Jonah Goldberg claims conservatives will gain if dems try to impeach Bush
The other day he claimed that Bill Clinton's numbers were over 60% because of the impeachment proceedings, and claims he actually would like to see the dems win, because the same thing will happen to Bush, making it easy for the GOP to retain the White House in 2008.

5. That idea only works if Gore won in 2000.
And he did, but only by the narrowest of margins.

7. I suspect that one is actually right.
Attempting to impeach Bush would backfire spectacularly, I suspect - even if it succeeded, it would cost the Democrats dearly in 2008.

6. Everything's good for the GOP
They're in power? Good!

They've totally fucked up everything they've touched? More good news, because now they can all run as "reform" candidates.

They're up in the polls? Good!

They're down in the polls? More good news, because the polls will only go up.

We got hit by the worst terrorist attack ever? Good!

We haven't done a damn thing about it? More good news, because that's always at the top of the to-do list.

They're launching an unprovoked invasion of Iraq? Good!

We're hopelessly mired in a quagmire with no prospect for change? More good news, because they can say they're staying the course like all good Americans always do.

See? It doesn't matter what they do or what happens, everything redounds to the benefit of the Republicans. It's their naturally sunny nobility.
