Press Release, Kentucky Democratic Party - Wesley Clark
Press Release 9/18/06– For Immediate Release
Kentucky Democratic Party – Allison Haley

FRANKFORT – Kentucky Democratic Party Chairman Jerry Lundergan is proud to announce that former U.S. presidential candidate General Wesley Clark is scheduled to appear at the 2nd Annual Kentucky Democrat Family Day, on Sunday, Sept. 24 from noon to 5 p.m. at KDP headquarters in Frankfort.

Along with his appearance at Family Day, Clark also is to tour the state to ignite the Democratic base, said Chairman Lundergan.

"This is the fist time we have had a national speaker come to help candidates not just at the top of the ticket but also on the bottom of the ticket. I am very honored and excited to have General Clark return to Kentucky," Lundergan said. "The Kentucky Democratic Party continues to attract national figures such as General Clark because nationally, we continue to play a significant role in helping Democrats restore the integrity of government."

Clark is scheduled to appear at a series of events throughout Western Kentucky on Monday afternoon, Sept. 24.

"This is one of the greatest resources that we have ever been able to offer our members," said House Speaker Jody Richards.

"To have a national party leader come into the state party and campaign on behalf our members in the House and Senate will be very, very helpful this fall and shows a real commitment from the state Democratic Party," Richards said. I can’t remember when we have had a national speaker with the stature of General Clark come in. This will be a big boost to our House and Senate campaigns."

Clark has a 38-year record of military service, which includes deployments in Vietnam, The Gulf War and Bosnia. He is a graduate of West Point and became a Rhodes Scholar in 1966. In the late 1990’s, Clark was appointed Supreme Allied Commander of NATO and commanded forces during the war in Kosovo. He won that war using only air power.

There will also be many other Democratic political speakers who will appear at Democrat Family Day. Other speakers are to include former Democratic governors, current lawmakers and candidates in attendance. This year’s event will also feature special guest host Victory J. Democrat, the mammoth donkey. There will also be free food and drinks available as well as free activities such as carnival rides, games, music and face painting for youngsters.
