Iraq Study Group won't give report until after November 8th

If President Bush and the Iraqi government are hoping for some solutions from the congressionally commissioned Iraq Study Group, they might want to start thinking about a Plan B.

Former secretary of state James Baker and former congressman Lee Hamilton (D-Ind.), the study group's co-chairmen, called a briefing yesterday to give a "progress report" on their activities. A dozen television cameras and scores of reporters filled the hall -- only to discover that Baker and Hamilton had revived Jerry Seinfeld's "show about nothing" format.

Wow, one might think that this "study" group has nothing to report but that it's FUBAR, and we need to cut and run.

By the way the only member of the study group who had balls enough to study anything outside the green zone was Chuck Robb.

1. How many cover-up Commissions have these guys been on?

Hamilton was in charge of the Congressional investigation into Iran-Contra that failed to prosecute Bush 41 for numerous crimes. After proving himself willfully, creatively blind to Presidential crime, they put him on the 9/11 Commission -- doomed to fail.

Then, there's Chuck Robb -- had to be one of the densest Democrats ever to serve in the US Senate -- who did his stint on the Iraq WMD "intelligence failures" panel. Predictably, found no White House role in exaggerating the evidence or coercing CIA analysts.

I won't even comment on Baker - the Bush Crime Family consigliotori. The fox in charge of the hens.

No wonder we've heard so little from this panel.

2. I heard James (consigliore) Baker talk a bit about it

a couple of days ago.

He basically said it was a godawful mess with no easy answers.

4. You can bet Jr. didn't want this commission...

I believe that Baker was sent in by Poppy to try and see if it was possible to clean the mess up (i.e. break some kneecaps and judiciously spread some money around) quickly and quietly, which of course it isn't.

Now he is simply charged with keeping a lid on it until after November, then you can expect things to get rather interesting. Whether we get out now, or sometime in the future, there is going to be a bloodbath, excuse me, even more of a bloodbath, the question is our army going to be caught in the middle or will we get the hell out of dodge in time.
