I'm not a Godless Democrat
That's a cartoon image perpetuated by ann coulter, that the Democratic party is godless, hates god, hates Christians, hates religion and does not welcome the religious.

I personally am an atheist, but I have no problem with benevolent religions of any stripe, do your own thing and don't jam my groove is my motto.

There are some who feel put upon or excluded from the Democratic party based on what they perceive as an attitude of un-welcomeness. Many Democrats are experiencing born again fatigue after 30 years of the Christians Conservatives infiltrating our government and influencing it, and are not afraid to say so.

I don't care what your religion is, there are so many to choose from, just don't pick one that hurts people, lies to people, influences people and steals from people. I welcome anyone to be a Democrat, atheists, Satanists, Baptists, Seventh Day Adventists, I don't care, I won't force atheism on you and don't you force religion on me and we'll get along royally.

By the sword if necessary! Don't you understand, it's for your own good you Godless heathen! Now sit down and shut up while I proselytize you (or else)...

3. Ditto what you said with emphasis on the "force" part.
Nothing drives me crazier than fundies with the need to spread the word. They appear on my front porch and talk through the screen because I won't let them in. The last batch wanted to talk to me about blood transfusions. Say what???

8. Oh boy do I have a story for you.
A few years back, during bird hunting season, I had just been out in the "back 40" and bagged a couple of grouse for dinner. I had cleaned and refridge'd the birds and was sitting outside on the back step cleaning my shotgun when a car filled with Jehovah Witnesses pulled into the driveway. As they started to get out, I looked up, while continuing to work on the shotgun, and said; "I'm not interested in what you're selling, kindly leave my property."

As I said that, they noticed the shotgun and quickly left. They've never been back for some strange reason.

All that being said: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you". To me that's always been more of a Democratic statement of principals, then a Republican one.

10. LOL - years ago I had a friend who was a cop and he threatened
to arrest them for trespassing. I don't think he had the shotgun out, though. Your story's really funny.

5. I don't have a mega-church
and I don't bow down to a republican god
who condones waterboarding,
trials without evidence,
senseless wars of personal gain
and unrestrained greed.

But..I am not godless. Thank god.

Though sometimes I wish my god was a little more old testament
when it comes to teachiing these republican crooks a lesson.
Bush sure could use a well placed lightning bolt.

6. Quite a list you have there.
"I don't care what your religion is, there are so many to choose from, just don't pick one that hurts people, lies to people, influences people and steals from people. I welcome anyone to be a Democrat..."

When you put that kind of limitation on it, it seems cut down on the selection, not to mention all the fun.
My java, or whatever, is fubar and I can't post a sarcasm(rain) tag.

7. I'm with you
Actually, I am intrigued by religion and religious customs and practice of all stripes.

I am awed by the beauty of many religious ceremonies and am honored when asked to attend.

Wish me a blessed day, or a Merry Christmas, Happy Hanuka or an Eid Mubarak ... I accept this as you wishing me the very best from your heart and I appreciate this.

All I ask is that you (actually just your religion) stay the hell out of schools and government (I do understand that your religion makes you whom you are ... but please separate religious dogma and law from your activities in government and schools ... you really can do it, ask Pres. Jimmy Carter).

I will respect your beliefs, as I expect you to respect mine ... sanctimonious behavior is never attractive or appreciated, regardless of your point of view.

9. I think religion is the bane of our species...
Even the nice ones.

It's all based on fantasy and children's stories and mumbo-jumbo.
We will NEVER get past the cycles of violence and hatred that we've been experiencing for thousands of years as long as there are huge chunks of populace that believe in fairy tales. Even the nice fairy tales. We need a reality based on reality. It's really that simple.

But then, I'm not a Democrat, I'm and Independent, so what do I know?
