i have several questions this morning:to
begin with i read an article by ted turner about the u.n.very interesting and there where some good points.1.why can`t iran have nuke weapons?we have 28,000,why can`t they have say 10?israel has over a 100 nukes.turner goes on to describe other nations such as india, pakistan, korea, russia.but the most interesting is that the u.s. is the only country to have used nukes.we are the worlds most belligerent nation.when you see the u.s. coming, death is not far behind.-while we spend all this money on wars and bitching about being addictive to oil why not call a real energy conference and figure out how to reduce our consumption of oil, this would reduce the clout the arabs have at least in our own country.example:bio-diesel,enthanol(i know its not much better then oil)but we would keep our money here at home and finally what about nuke energy,i heard or read that the waste is 99% recycleable(sp)i`m just wondering on this few subjects but there are many others that could serve manwomankind better,THEN GOING OFF TO FUCKING WAR ALL THE TIME.sorry about the last line rant.we need e.e. cummings and hunter s thompson back.

2. This has always been a problem. We have them and used them.
Our moral ground on this one has always smelled bad but when we said we would cut down if they did I saw some hope. I guess we just want our own way and that seems reasonable to the USA

3. I don't want Iran to have the Bomb
they seem pretty willing to test and advance their already modern arsenal. they also seem willing to use it. Their president has called repeatedly for the destruction of Israel. I personally don't want anyone to have nukes and from reading all about the disasters nuclear energy can cause and the fact that it doesn't actually produce that much energy I don't see the point.

5. Iran is twenty years from having nukes.
You have to have almost 100 percent pure enriched uranium to have weapons grade uranium. They only have three percent.

It takes years and years to get to that purity.

It's the same thing with Iraq. They were years away from anything close to nuclear. bush shoveled that nuclear crap right into our televisions and knew it was a total unequivocal Oscar winning lie.

8. I agree that they are far away from
having the capability. but the proliferation of arms has never just been limited to non-nuclear either and i think their should be a U.N. enforced ban on nuclear arms for iran.

10. How do you know this?
It only took us what 6 or 7 years to do it the first time. Why will it take them 20?

13. I just assumed his space bar didn't work after any punctuation.

(yeah, right) There are so many people here that post insightful information and opinions, that can't be bothered to punctuate and format their posts. It's not cool. It detracts from the message, makes it harder to read. Otherwise good or even excellent post get blown off as a result, even hijacked.

9. About Iran's nukes
The question is commonly phrased comething like this "Should Iran be allowed to have nukes?"

The assumption here is that Iran must somehow ask our permission to have nukes. Where did this come from? How did Bush's arrogence that the world needs our permission to exist permeate the discussion?

Now, it is true that Iran has signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. But to date, Iran has no nuclear material to make an atomic firecracker, much less a bomb. The have no plutonium reactors, either. The time estimates run the better part of a decade before they finally make a nuke.

If they're breaking the NNPT by not letting in the UN inspectors, then do some sanctions or something. If they pull out of the NNPT, then I don't know what we'll do.

Look, I think Iran having a nuke is a horrible bad idea because the government is a religious fundamentalist government headed up by a frothing nutjob.

I also think that US have a nuke right now is not a good idea either, also because OUR government is run by religious fundamentalist frothing nutjobs! I think we should give our nukes to the Swiss, just until Bush is out of office. We can put them in those vaults next to where all those great works of French art magically appeared sometime in the early 40's...
