On edit: The date is Sept. 17 on that transcript, but that is probably just a typo?

4. It was bitchslapping at a higher level.
He exposed the utter hypocricy of Bushco in a well thought out and coherent speech. Of course I disagree with the religious clap trap but Rummy should be squirming tonight.

6. there is a great deal to be learned from this speech....

First and foremost, American foreign policy breeds extremism. In the muslim world that tends toward islamic fundamentalism. Second, the Palestinian situation will not simply go away-- as long as justice is denied for the Palestinians the ME will be unable to find peace. Finally, the rest of the world sees U.S. foreign policy in a far harsher light than most Americans even realize, and it would benefit us to pay attention. We must learn to work with the whole world, or we will have to try to defeat the whole world in order to impose the will of American corporations and government. That is ultimately what the neocon "generation war" is all about.

I was most disappointed by the pervasive religious theme. Ahmadinejad himself hit the nail on the head when he described the roots of Iran's islamic revolution, but it is nonetheless difficult to have reasonable discussions with religious zealots of any stripe.

7. The speech from Brazil's Lula was noteworthy also
compare these speeches and also Kofi Annan's speech to Mr. Bush
The world needs some solutions and dialogue not just the rhetoric of hate
