President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad doesn't strike me as "combative"
His speech so far is articulate and fairly well done.

I did notice that the US is missing as I heard Iran was from shrub's speech.

Which Amawhateverhisnameis does.

The bottom line is that they're both extremist radicals and they both deserve to be locked in a room together on the 7th floor of hell for eternity.

58. And with bush he wears his extremism on his sleeve
My point is that Ahmadinejad didn't. He said the right things in the right tone and came across as more sincere than bush.

I feel as if I'm comparing two used car salesmen. I wouldn't trust either half as far as I could throw them, but the fact remains that most people buy their used car from the one that delivers the more sincere line of crap, no?

55. transcript here
people can think whatever they want about Ahmadinejad but the man is not stupid like Mr. Bush. Ahmadinejad had some good points in his speech about our policy.

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/14911603/

one snip from article

Brian Williams: How do you think the discussion has been allowed to get that far, that we're discussing possible war between the U.S. and Iran?

Mahmoud Ahmadinejad: I think we need to ask this question from American, U.S., politicians. The world has changed. The time for world empires has ended. The U.S. government thinks that it's still the period after World War II, when they came out as a victor and enjoyed special rights. And can rule, therefore, over the rest of the world. I explicitly say that I am against the policies chosen by the U.S. government to run the world. Because these policies are moving the world towards war.

64. transcript of Ahmadinejad's speech to UN General Assembly here
Edited on Wed Sep-20-06 07:00 PM by Tin Man
http://www.globalsecurity.org/wmd/library/news/iran/2006/iran-060920-irna02.htm

Below are the final 3 paragraphs of his address. In particular, the last sentence is what originally caught my attention - appears Ahmadinejad beseeches God to send a new prophet to earth ???

"The Almighty and Merciful God, who is the Creator of the Universe, is also its Lord and Ruler. Justice is His command. He commands His creatures to support one another in Good, virtue and piety, and not in decadence and corruption.

He commands His creatures to enjoin one another to righteousness and virtue and not to sin and transgression. All Divine prophets from the Prophet Adam (peace be upon him) to the Prophet Moses (peace be upon him), to the Prophet Jesus Christ (peace be upon him), to the Prophet Mohammad (peace be upon him), have all called humanity to monotheism, justice, brotherhood, love and compassion. Is it not possible to build a better world based on monotheism, justice, love and respect for the rights of human beings, and thereby transform animosities into friendship?
"I emphatically declare that today's world, more than ever before, longs for just and righteous people with love for all humanity; and above all longs for the perfect righteous human being and the real savior who has been promised to all peoples and who will establish justice, peace and brotherhood on the planet.

O, Almighty God, all men and women are your creatures and you have ordained their guidance and salvation. Bestow upon humanity that thirsts for justice, the perfect human being promised to all by you, and make us among his followers and among those who strive for his return and his cause. "

44. I agree with you. So far from what I have seen of him, first
on "Sixty Minutes" with Mike Wallace and on down the line, he has tried to present himself as logical if nothing else.

Has he the same record of genocide that our President has? I'm not accepting any more labeling of people we aren't supposed to like from either party. I'm done with that. For years we have been told how evil various leaders of various countries are to suit the agenda of the American corporate interests.

IMHO we have the biggest and worst in our own house, the White House.

if its still available somewhere. He was talking about jihad, equating it with the need of soldiers to (violently) defend their nation, and also spoke on behalf of more than just the "nation" of Iran. He sounded very much in line with the fundamentalists who are in control of Iran.

52. I am glad that you know what Ahmadinejad wants.
I am not sure whether he just wants nuclear power for his country or would like to eventually have a nuclear weapon in Iran's arsenal. I respect those among us who believe that the world would be fairer if every country that wants nuclear weapons was free to have them, but I do not agree with them.

The fact that Ahmadinejad will stand up to Bush does not earn him my uncritical support. The benefit of the doubt, sure, but I reserve the right to make up my own mind about him based on what he does for, not to, his countrymen, not just what he does to Bush. Most anti-Bush politicians and world leaders have my respect, but not all.

Holocaust denial is not causus belli. That is where this is headed. That is what the war-mongering Right Wing wants.

The U.S. cannot invade nations and cause the death of hundreds of thousands of innocent people just because someone engages in Holocaust denial.

So you can defend the war-mongerers, hate-mongerers and others who want more illegal war, while I will continue derailing the effort in seeking peace.
