Bush says we will keep spreading Democracy until we are done.
Bush Says U.S. Will Keep Pressing Spread of Democracy

Sept. 19 (Bloomberg) -- President George W. Bush told world leaders the U.S. won't leave Iraq until the country's transformation to a peaceful democracy is complete and pledged to give diplomacy a chance to resolve a dispute with Iran over its nuclear development program.

In an address to the United Nations General Assembly in New York today, Bush said the progress of democracy in the world, particularly the Middle East, is real and sometimes dramatic, even if it is gradual.

He promised to support the emerging Democracy in Lebanon, and I will bet that did nothing to calm their fears. Bush does not manage our own Democracy very well.

He also said:
"From Beirut to Baghdad, people are making the choice for freedom and the nations here in this chamber must make a choice as well,'' Bush said in the 20-minute speech. ``Will we support the moderates and the reformers who are working for change across the Middle East, or will be yield the future to the terrorists and the extremists?''

The U.S. ``has made its choice,'' Bush said.

I am to the point now that I don't want to hear another Democrat say a single word about spreading Democracy. No more...we have no right. We are not "spreading Democracy", we are attacking and invading other countries.

This is one thing I draw the line on about our party. Our Democrats must make it clear we are done with this "progressive internationalism" or whatever it is called now. No more.

No more spreading Democracy or spreading anything else but peace.

Seriously, he's giving democracy a bad name, worse, he clearly doesn't know the meaning of the word. It doesn't SPREAD. It arises.

keep that war profiteering going and keep that pRes right where he is. :sarcasm:

Now McCain, Warner, Lindsay Graham, Colin Powell and George Schultz are keeping the Chimperor from his divine right to rule. This is getting very good, it looks like a showdown and repugs are shooting at each other. Love it.

Dictating, occupying, and subjugating....hardly words toward Peace

Bush is stuck on the "I am the War President"

"I am the Decider"

and...."I need a ReClarification on Art 3", (UN Charter.)

He leads from a Weakened Position of his own doing....Rather than retreat toward Sanity and Reason...he clings to disasters with scarey imaginations...only foolish generals do this....

The People Come First.....

14. Bush can lie and say it is 'democracy', but the world thinks he is a
war criminal. EVERYONE on the planet knows you cannot FORCE a way of living on a people who are sovereign and independent of Americas beliefs. Bush is oppressive and dogmatic towards spreading fascism. Go ahead and call it what you will George, we all know the truth.

15. He makes my head hurt and I need a translator!
"the progress of democracy in the world, particularly the Middle East, is real and sometime dramtic, even if it is gradual." The occupied (and tortured/imprisoned) seem to be getting a steady hate-on for the occupiers. The bombings which never ocurred in Iraq before have steadily picked up the pace and the numbers of dead Iraqis is increasing...is this what he means by dramatic? If so, how is this good for anybody?

"From Beirut to Baghdad", blah, blah, seems to just be more of the you're either with us or against us blathering.

"or will be yield the future to the terrorists and extremists?" Did he really say this or was in an accidental typo? What in the hell does this mean? The dolt is actually an extremist...what is he talking about?

22. So when the Shiite democratic majority in Iraq decide to ally with...
the Shiite controlled Democracy of Iran, what will happen then? I'm not trying to defend Ahmadinejad's authoritarian theocratic methods, but what if the people of Iran decided, democratically, that they deserve to develop nuclear capabilities? If we later attack Iran, would we not then be attacking a sovereign nation for something that was the result of a democratic decision?

26. Terrible headline: "Bush takes moderate stance on Iran at UN"
This is the NYT article with a different headline. This part of the speech alone makes that headline not true.

NEW YORK UNITED NATIONS, Sept. 19 - President Bush made a direct appeal to the Iranian people from the United Nations on Tuesday, telling them their leaders were misleading them about the United States' intentions while using their national treasury to sponsor terrorists and build a nuclear bomb.

"You deserve an opportunity to determine your own future," Bush said during a roughly 20-minute address marking the opening session of the General Assembly. "The greatest obstacle to this future is that your rulers have chosen to deny you liberty and to use your nation's resources to fund terrorism and fuel extremism and pursue nuclear weapons."

Bush reiterated his demand that Iran suspend its uranium enrichment program but added, "Despite what the regime tells you, we have no objection to Iran's pursuit of a truly peaceful nuclear power program."

Bush did not restrict his comments to Iran. Speaking to what he called "the broader Middle East," Bush said: "Extremists in your midst spread propaganda claiming that the West is engaged in war against Islam. This propaganda is false, and its purpose is to confuse you and justify acts of terror."

And oh no, I just noticed he cited 3 war ravaged countries as examples of emerging Democracy.

In his speech, Bush pointed to progress in the Middle East toward democracy, saying, "We're seeing a bright future begin to take root in the broader Middle East," and cited the relatively new governments in Iraq, Afghanistan and Lebanon as examples.

He promised Iraqis the United States would not "abandon you;" told the Afghans, "We will stand with you to defend your democratic gains," and promised Lebanon the world would help it rebuild after the war on its soil between Israel and Hezbollah. Bush said that helping deliver a "two-state" solution in the Israeli-Palestinian crisis was "one of the great objectives of my presidency" and said he was dispatching Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to enlist moderate governments in the Middle East in the region to help foster peace.

Is he totally unaware of what is going on those countries? How completely foolish he looks.
