Not that I'm complaining about lowered gas prices but....Has dimson persuaded his Saudi puppetmasters to lower the price of oil before the election ---or what? What's so different now compared to a month ago when oil was nearly $80/barrel?

This is a good question for some enterprising reporter and Wall St. watchers.

4. Two possible reasons
1. Tensions between Lebanon, Israel, Syria and Iran lessened, while nobody is too happy about the resolution of that conflict, it seems like things have cooled off. The 2006 Hurricaine season has, thus far, proven less destructive than previous years. A large find was uncovered in the gulf. Gas producers had been over producing to meet the demands (and to make more money while prices were high).

2. Bush and Rove gave a call to their saudi buddies and said "Hey lower the price of gas dimwits. We need to retain control of Congress in order to keep invading your neighbors."

I know which one I think more likely, but i suspect most find it hard to believe.

7. Ahhh, but let's break down your number 1....
Tensions between Lebanon, Israel, Syria and Iran lessened, while nobody is too happy about the resolution of that conflict, it seems like things have cooled off.

As you well know, the U.S. is a puppet state of Israel so Israel stopped the hostilities in order to lower the gas prices and keep their lapdog government in power.

The 2006 Hurricaine season has, thus far, proven less destructive than previous years.

And who has their button on the hurricane machine? Rove of course. Did you forget last year so quickly?

A large find was uncovered in the gulf.

And you think that was only discovered recently? Hell no! They've been keeping that discovery hidden for over 2 years now and just not revealed it to everyone in order to lower gas prices for the upcoming elections. It's so obvious!

Gas producers had been over producing to meet the demands (and to make more money while prices were high).

over-producing now, you mean, because of the upcoming elections.

5. Coincidence
Plenty of MORONS around who will believe that one.

Plenty of MORONS who will now vote for the repubs because their gas cost is 50 cents lower in October.

6. One has to wonder
Why load up inventories when prices were so high? Higher prices normally lead to alternative behavior. The so called political risk factor may not be a risk factor at all but a known quantity. That is being dispensed with to get the legislative sanction for war after the election.

The Saudis are definitely an interested party in this matter and are supporting US actions against Iran in the marketplace. With the price collapsing why would they give reassurances about OPEC production levels. Theorectically it is not in their financial interest to do so. They are doing it because keeping the bushcronies in office is in their strategic interest because the cronies are committed to eliminating Iranian sovereignty, militarily, economically, and politically.

If you were planning on expanding war in the middle east, wouldn't you accumulate inventory? The stories coming out of Chevron and BP were carefully timed, exaggerated and misrepresented to affect prices at a critical time.

8. Two reasons gas prices are dropping....
1. elections
2. time to calculate the social security and railroad retirement for next year based on the inflation rate. The inflation rate was higher until gas prices dropped. Lower inflation rate, lower increase for retirees.
