Pelosi:Statement on Bush's Speech at U.N.
"It's one thing to give a speech about promoting peace, freedom and democracy in broad, general terms as President Bush did at the U.N. today. It is another to commit to doing the hard work of dipomacy on a daily basis to resolve matters such as Iran's nuclear ambitions,Syria's support for Hezbollah, and the issues that divide Israelis and Palestinians."

"The President's words need to be matched by sustained dipomatic engagment with our allies, and directly with our adversaries when neccessary- not just when elections are near, but all the time. Mr. Bush's rhetoric must be matched by policies that are well devised and competently implemented- unlike the policies that have made the U.S. less safe, such as the war in Iraq or the failure to finish the fight against terrorist in Afghistan.

The War in Iraq Currently Costs:
$8.4 billion per month
$1.9 billion per week
$275 Million per day
$11.5 million per hour

5. I read it
Seemed kinda 'neener neener neener' to me.

Sentiment was okay, but jeeze, can't they make things sound just a little bit less than a whiney sound bite 'gotcha' and a bit more substantive?

/end tiny rant

7. Another great opportunity missed by faint damnation
I am getting sort of tired of Pelosi's lack of nerve to zoom in on the pertinent issues. She had this excellent opportunity to slam Bushhole's war doctrine in general as an excellent example of his rank hypocrisy, his contradictory actions when it comes to brutalizing Arab/Muslim governments around the world and then cooing with his New Age bullshit at the UN, and the way his administration is now posturing (or preparing) to create another agressive war on a nation that never did anything to us.

I'm sorry, but we need stronger, more resolved Democratic opposition to these laughable thugs than we are getting with the current leadership.

10. To me, the statement is verbose and convoluted AND acknowledges a
Repubby party talking point: namely that the speech was about promoting peace and freedom and bridge building. THAT is not the speech I saw. The speech was very confrontational and dictatorial.

Her statement completely accepts the spin of a terrible speech, then tries to turn the spin on its face by muttering about unsustained diplomatic engagement amounting to mush.

It is no wonder Rove is using her as the poster child for why Pubbies should be returned to office.

Her response to their political jabs are just so weak. Dems can do better--and they HAVE TO.

11. Pelosi is a bad joke, get her out of there! She is too weak and speaks
in circles never ending anywhere.

Polls show Bush up to 43% and Repugs and Dems are even. By election day we will be completely beaten.

We must stop tiptoeing around if we expect to win. This bipartisan crap is just that - crap!

Makes you wonder how much of his policy they oppose, it's so convoluted.

13. Polosi is a whiney person.
Most of the time she looks like she is about to burst out in tears. It's her look and her style. She is a good person and consistent in her political views but she comes off as subservient to the RWing Regime. Presence does matter.

14. I agree with that - first part of statement give him credit.
Statement could have been much better, IMHO.
