Christian Newswire: Boycott NBC over Madonna "crucifixion"!
Contact: Dane Rose, National Clergy Council, 202-546-8329 ext. 106, 703-447-1072 cell, DaneRose@FaithAndAction.org

WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 /Christian Newswire/ -- NBC’s entertainment industry program “Access Hollywood” has reported that the Peacock network is planning to air footage in November of a concert by pop singer Madonna that features her “crucifixion” on a mirrored cross. NBC executive Kevin Reilly was quoted saying, "We viewed it and didn't see it as being inappropriate."

The Reverend Rob Schenck (pronounced SHANK), President of the National Clergy Council, representing church leaders of Catholic, Evangelical, Orthodox and Protestant traditions, has asked NBC not to broadcast what he called an “obnoxious spectacle.”

Schenck said, “By sponsoring Madonna’s mockery of Christ, NBC will insult the majority of Americans and millions more around the globe. The entertainment elite are so very bothered over America’s image in the Muslim world, but what about in the Christian world, some two billion people? I must wonder if NBC would approve of Madonna’s mocking a major event in the life of Mohammed?” :eyes:

Schenck went on to explain, “Not only does this alienate more viewers from NBC, it also contributes to America’s worldwide problems. Even the most extreme Muslims respect Christians who take their religion seriously. But they have no respect, and shouldn’t have respect, for those who vulgarize religion--particularly religion of the Book.”

The NCC President has called on the NBC to reconsider its decision to show the crucifixion scene as part of a program scheduled for the period in November when networks compete for ratings and advertising dollars. Schenck said, “NBC should do the responsible, civil thing and retract its permission for this obnoxious spectacle. All of human civilization will benefit from one less spasm of Madonna’s excesses.”

He suggested that by NBC stands to gain a little much-needed respect by dropping the offensive segment and warned, “Until they do so, the rest of us simply need to turn off NBC.”

1. I don't remember any Fundies getting their boxers in a knot
over Mel Gibson's 2-1/2 hr. film of Jesus being tortured and crucified to death. They actually gave tickets to that bloodfest in churches!

3. All these god-obsessed dipwads arguing over perceived insults
is a bit like watching a bunch of Dungeons & Dragons geeks in a heated debate over whose wizard has more power.

They forget it ain't real.

4. Never having cared for her desperate attempts to glamourise
tackiness and obscenity, the issue of boycotting her could hardly arise. I'm just baffled at her popularity.

5. As a Christian, the crucifixion means nothing. It's the Resurrection,
stupid, that counts.

Jesus was one of many, many people crucified by the Romans.

9. If only they would use their time and resources to raise a stink
about the millions of children in Africa who are either born with HIV, or have lost both their parent to AIDS, they I might pay them some attention.
