In God We Still Trust
In God We Still Trust

What a beautiful thought - that I for one want to always hold in mind. For God's sake - literally -- please do not let these radicals as portrayed in the Jesus Camps -- or the war mongers, bigoted, racial hate extremists who tout themselves as "Christians" make you think it's Jesus who is to blame. God still stands for love, tolerance, patience, kindness, forgiveness, giving, joy and let's certainly not leave out peace!

I've been wanting to make a blog about this for some time - and also share my thoughts here. This video "In God We Still Trust" and the "Jesus Camps" video both crossed my path again today and it was the inspiration I needed to get me to do it.

These "Jesus camps" are really scary -- but they are cultish -- remember that!! Sadly too many NUTS in this world use Christianity to make outrageous and reprehensible attempts at trying to legitimize the spread of their dangerous poisons.

So, don't be fooled, swayed, or disheartened. Indeed, we are well advised to remember,
In God we still trust!

3. Why is it so important to theists to have this thought on our money?
It isn't true. I don't trust in God. Aren't I part of the "we"?

8. I can't understand how anyone in this America can trust in God
when they can't even trust in the voting machines. How can you trust in a God who lets something like the Bushist era happen?

6. I've always thought having that saying on money
was completely crass and presumptuous.

5. No, we don't trust in God, we are not a Christian nation
don't forget that.

"True Christianity" or fundie Christianity aside, we as a nation do not endorse, and should not endorse, either version.

9. Hi Texas Dem, and welcome to DU...
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 02:59 PM by 1620rock
I apologize for the nasty comments your post has met with. I am an agnostic myself, but you have taken the true meaning of Jesus teachings and incorporated them into your life. I salute you for that. Please do not be put off by others comments this early in your DU experience. A lot of us are so bitter and fed up these days that we forget the message of tolerance and open mindedness that are traditional liberal values. Again, welcome to DU. :hi:

10. Thanks....
... 1620Rock, for you kind words and support -- but they don't bother me. I'm about as liberal as anybody you would want to meet -- so much so that I believe they have a right to their opinions and to express them, as do I.
We each, my opinion, have to find our own spiritual comfort level, and it's not up to me to dictate how it is or if it is or if it should or should not be. My only purpose in this post is to say that Christianity - as I know it and practice it and the Christianity that the radicals are misrepresenting it is entirely something else. Whether people choose to believe in the/a Supreme Being or not, it is still the basic Judeo-Christian values that have pretty much at least INFLUENCED most civilized societies. When radicals pick and choose and alter and distort, then they give the whole thing a bad name and even perhaps drive people away from even a remote curiosity to learn about it much less to embrace it. My purpose here is certainly not to convert anybody, but to say to anybody to please be objective when you see the extremists running around and don't judge "ME" as one of them simply because I wear the tag "Christian." This country invaded Iraq under lies and mis-truths and I am a citizen and it could be said I had a part in it. Well, I did not! I protested! I cried!! It was NOT done in MY name - and neither are these "Jesus Camps." That's my whole point.
Why wouldn't this post be appropriate here when a banner of advertisement for the Jesus Camps has been posted right on the same page and is all over the news? Why wouldn't this post be appropriate here when much criticism is being tossed at CBS for even suggesting that Bill Maher not discuss religion in a free speech forum on CBS? If the moderators feel it should be moved - then so be it; but I do not see that this is a "let me convert you" post as much as it is "hey, let's keep our objectivity in place" kind of posts.

Rant complete. lol

Thanks to all for your comments - even if you don't agree with me. :)
