Glenn Beck. . .
I'm sure DUers have weighed in on this guy before, but I have never seen it and I'm curious as to your take on this guy.

I've seen plenty of complaints about Nancy Grace. But none about Glenn Beck.

He's been hammering home on how important it is for us to "win" in Iraq. I can only listen to him for so long but he reminds me of a bubbly Bill O'Reilly, if there can be such a thing.

4. I have a friend who's really into him
I find him obnoxious but would rate him lower than Rush LImbaugh or Dennis Prager or Hannity or O'Reilly on the obnoxious scale - but not by much. He claims to see himself as more of a libertarian than a republican, but I'm not sure myself.

Also he is Mormon, as I'm sure someone here will mention (I am also).

His book is called the "Real America" or Real Americans - or something like that - which pushes all the wrong buttons with me - because I doubt I would make any list of "real Americans."

Glenn Beck thinks he is funny. And, many right wingers have convinced themselves that he is. Glenn Beck is not funny. Not even close.

Of course, any time I tell right wingers that Beck isn't funny, they accuse me not recognizing his genius because I hate the guy's politics.

Known as Glenn Beck, you must not have been reading in great depth.

Granted, although he insults our intelligence and behaves like a rich 40 something Frat boy, he's a small bit player.

I don't know why CNN has degraded itself to run these obnoxious and shallow people (Nancy Grace & Glenn Beck) during Prime Time. IMO they are pissing on our leg and hope that we'll believe their claims that "It's Raining." :puke:

22. I don't have any idea. One evening I turned on Headline News
to catch "The Headlines" (duh!) and instead, they have Grace's mug spewing some psycho bullshit, talking tongues and lustfully determining all the things that her and Mark Claus could do to whomever has kidnapped the M$M Missing Child of the Month.

Glenn Beck also spews absurd Neo-Conservative views (profiling and torture = GOOD!) and tries to sell them like a manly, fellow fraternity brother type of camaraderie.

Mostly his UGLY and pompous frat rat demeanor (arrogance beyond belief) really disgusts me. I honestly get a Creeped-Out when his little beady eyes stare into the camera.

Basically, he's vomit! :puke:

23. Dirty Little Secret ...
I can't resist watching at least a few minutes of Beck's show every night -- it's so bad, it's like watching an SNL or MAD-TV take-off on shows of this ilk.

I never see Beck as being in the same league as O'Reilly or Limbaugh, who are 'misleaders' as opposed to Beck, who is just one of the many 'misled'. He spouts RW talking points with the same naive enthusiasm as a small child talks about Santa Claus or the Tooth Fairy.

The 'humour' bits on his show (obviously a sad attempt to mimic The Daily Show et al) are so ridiculously sophmoric, I feel certain they are written by high schoolers -- you know, the ones who sit at the 'nerdy' table in the cafeteria.

I've no doubt that when there are conferences or seminars for broadcasters, Beck is the guy who shows up with a whoopie cushion, a hand-buzzer, and a bow-tie that squirts water in your face!

Glenn Beck: destined to sit at the 'nerdy' table of RW broadcasting for the rest of his days ...

I am a nerd.

Glen Beck is not a nerd, he's a pig who tries to fit in with the other "boys" by acting like a manly man. The kind you want to have a beer or watch a football game with.

In general, I continue to be a nerd, of sorts, some of my friends are nerds ... Dammit, I love nerds!

IMO Glenn Beck is a 40 something wannabe Fraternity Brother, not a beloved Nerd. :-)

33. I don't think we're using 'nerd' in the same way ...
My idea of a nerd is those guys back in my high school days (a VERY long time ago), who read stories in the tabloids and swallowed them as gospel truth, who passed along school gossip but NEVER got the story straight, and who thought a pile of plastic vomit was the absolute height of hilarity.

That's Glenn Beck in a nutshell. Believes every RW 'fact' he's ever heard regardless of how ridiculous it is, passes along 'gossip' about Liberals and Democrats that have already been completely debunked -- and still laughing at jokes the average third-grader would think beneath their intellectual level.

I doubt that description fits you, or your friends!

No, I'm talking about kids who graduate H.S. at a young age, high intelligence but underachievers, love tweaking all kinds of electronics, own a half dozen radios with various frequency coverage and twice that many antennas (house/car) that were deemed "essential." Hell! Even their spouses consider them a little on nerdy side.

Oops! I'm giving my self away.

But I now apologize for our definitions of "NERDS" do not mesh at all. Perhaps I'm a little older and my definition is a little outdated. ;)

On Edit: Now I get it! What to you is a nerd, is to me an wealthy, spoiled, and ultra-arrogant frat rat.

I fully understand now :-).

Radio host Glenn Beck "thinking about killing Michael Moore"

~snip~
From the May 17 broadcast of The Glenn Beck Program:

BECK: Hang on, let me just tell you what I'm thinking. I'm thinking about killing Michael Moore, and I'm wondering if I could kill him myself, or if I would need to hire somebody to do it. No, I think I could. I think he could be looking me in the eye, you know, and I could just be choking the life out -- is this wrong? I stopped wearing my What Would Jesus -- band -- Do, and I've lost all sense of right and wrong now. I used to be able to say, "Yeah, I'd kill Michael Moore," and then I'd see the little band: What Would Jesus Do? And then I'd realize, "Oh, you wouldn't kill Michael Moore. Or at least you wouldn't choke him to death." And you know, well, I'm not sure.

Beck's program is syndicated by Premiere Radio Networks (owned by radio conglomerate Clear Channel Communications) on more than 160 radio stations across the country to an estimated audience of 6 million listeners. He has previously falsely accused Moore of "taking help and money from Hezbollah" and called Michael Berg, who criticized the Bush administration after his son Nick was beheaded in Iraq, "despicable" and "a scumbag."

He's only another right-wing pro-death gas bag. He only serves to advance Neo-con causes, and work continually at hacking away at everyone else. Dirty, vicious, ugly clown. His way of making a living is something a decent person could never find acceptable. He's out there trying to disable dissent.

36. Beck: The fluffy, cuddly Bushbot...
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 12:55 PM by TwoSparkles
I listen to Beck sometimes.

I predict he surpasses Limbaugh's ratings within a year.

Beck's program is a combination of "SNL"-type skits, commentary on politics/pop culture
and lecturing. Beck delivers like a stand-up comic and he's pretty talented
with character voices, which he uses frequently. The show is fast-paced and
Beck comes off like the charming, zany guy next door who grills everyday in
Hawaiian shorts.

Unfortunately--most of his views follow the Bush agenda--and he props up the
neocon agenda. He's totally pro-Iraq war and he's leading the fight to declare
war on Iran. He's even asserted that we're really in Iraq as a springboard to
spread further war in the Middle East--namely Iran.

He's a total Bush apologist. However, he claims that he's independent, and that
his show isn't really about politics. However, he spends most of his time
discussing politics. He's got nothing nice to say about liberals. He did, however,
condemn ABC for "The Path to 9/11" and he urged his viewers to not watch--because it
contained fiction.

He's a strong advocate for children and he comes out swinging against child molesters.
I know---most people are against child molesters--but Beck will talk about the subject
whereas most talk-show hosts don't. He talks about it often and he's pissed. This is
probably the only area on which I can agree with Beck. I applaud his outrage--when most
talk-show hosts ignore these stories.

So...if you like your neocon Bushisms served up by a fuzzy-wuzzy teddy bear--in a wacky
game-show format--tune in to Glenn Beck.

However, some personalities mesh better with certain audiences. So, thank goodness for Glenn Beck that *someone* finds him likable. ;)

Every time I see him it reminds me of the nasty boys at the Fraternity House across our square. The kind of pompous know-it-alls that you would just love seeing someone kick the crap out of - albeit it would not change their "I'm so wonderful" demeanor.

Yes, I concur with your BushBot analysis, but find it amazing anyone can find someone as arrogant and "all knowing" as Glenn Beck as entertaining, SNL skits or not. :hi:
