A women's magazine has collected 17,400 signatures in a bid to rid Swiss households of hundreds of thousands of weapons................. -SNIP-

1. I wonder if that will pass
Switzerland is exhibit A in the argument that having guns don't cause gun crimes, if memory serves.

My plan is working brilliantly. Once the Swiss are disarmed, Geneva is mine!

4. Nobody, except maybe Bush
The advantage of a highly regulated, mandatory community militia system is that a) it does not lend itself easily to imperial ambitions unlike the more Prussian model the US operates on; b) it's a good defense against external invasion in that the local militias know the terrain in more detail than the opponent could possibly hope to know; and c) it keeps gun accident death rates down in that people are required by law to undergo gun safety/training as a part of national service to the militias. If you want to live with guns, the American model is a failure compared to the Swiss model.

7. Each country should address its own problem. I wonder however what is the
specific problem that will be solved by taking thousands of weapons from Swiss households?
