Follow up to my thread yesterday regarding conversation with GOPer
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 10:18 AM by AndyA
Original thread yesterday here:

Had it out with a Republican today! Big time!!

The parking attendant this morning told me that when I walked off yesterday after having a discussion with a man regarding his "PROUD TO BE A REPUBLICAN" sticker, the guy said to him that it sure seemed like people were upset these days.

The parking attendant said, "Well things aren't going so well for a lot of people, it's not easy for a lot of us to live these days. You probably don't understand that, but it's pretty bad."

The guy responded, "Well I know how you feel, it's not so great for me either. I'm trying to save my business right now, that's why I'm here, I have an appointment in this building."

The parking attendant (his name is Jeremy) said as he gave the guy his ticket, he said that hopefully things would change, because they sure couldn't keep going as they were.

To which the guy said, "I know. I probably should take that sticker off."

Jeremy said, "I'll be happy to scrape it off for you, I have something I can take it off with."

The guy told him to do it!

:woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo: :woohoo:

There's one less GOP ad in the world today! And likely, one less GOP voter as well!

6. Wow. What a nice story.
I'm glad to hear that the parking attendant and the object of your tirade were able to connect on a friendlier level.

And that the attendant could "help" that struggling Republican by taking the thorn out of his paw, well, I think it sets an example for us all.

10. I guess they're not all diehards then, huh?
Just cuz they have a sticker doesn't mean they're complete morons? That's good to know. Thanks for updating us. It gives me hope.

Maybe we should all do what you did. But be careful. A lot of wingers are packin'.

11. He'll never vote for a Democrat
not unless he loses his business and his home thanks to Stupid's fiscal policies minimizing earnings and promoting debt as a way to make up the shortfall.

The GOP is bad for business, but businessmen have bought the lies. They have to learn the hard way, most of them, and I'm afraid most of them will do just that.

Likely this guy will be disgusted enough to stay home on election day. He'll be back at the polls when Stupid is finally gone, though, voting for more of the same bad policies, the same half baked economics theories.

12. More anecdotal evidence that something big is happening
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 10:57 AM by longship
I think that this is the real deal.

First, look at the disposition of the midterm elections. There are dozens of jeopardized GOP seats. There are a few, very few, Democrat-held seats in jeopardy. The telling metric here is that of those jeopardized seats many GOP seats are in serious trouble whereas *not one* Dem-held seat is in similar condition.

People are ultra pissed at the GOP and at ChimpCo. They are taking action. Moderate GOP candidates are filing as Democrats. Voters are removing their bumper stickers. And many, many more former GOP voters have quietly changed their minds. Yet, it is very likely that few to no Democrats are going the other way. (Lieberman is an aberration.)

What might this mean for November, I don't exactly know. But I suspect that things are much, much worse for the GOP than anybody is reporting. I also suspect that the polls are out of wack this season. If you listen to the political analysts on the tube you can tell that they are not seeing the same thing as many of us are. Likewise, the pollsters.

My only conclusion is that there must be a lot that's happening below the radar which is not being seen by even the opinion polls. I really hope that this is true because it will mean that we're going to sweep into power in numbers that hitherto has not happened in a long, long time--if ever.

I remain optimistic. I worry about the voting machines, but I do not think that ChimpCo can jigger something this big. They may be able to flip a few races, but I really do not think that they'll be able to stop this run-away GOP train wreck.

I'm calling it like this. Dems take 6-8 Senate seats and over 30 House seats--both comfortable margins. We could realistically see a real sweep in the House where we take a bunch more than that.

Here's another prediction, actually a realistic one. The Democrats will lose *zero* seats to the GOP in both the Senate and the House.

13. Ya ha!
At the very least, his rolling billboard doesn't go around town anymore validating some folks' opinion or giving them permission not to change their minds or think. And who knows, this could be the beginning of the renaissance of his brain, and reflective people are anathema to the Reptilian Republicans, who prey on people's basest instinctual brain functions.

18. But the GOP promised THEY were the saviour of small business
like all their other lies - turns out they are the killer of small biz if they can favor their corporate masters.

Hope the guys biz survives - a 'once bitten' Republican won't fall for the BS as easily the next time around - I certainly didn't.
