If people vote GOP based on gas prices alone, they deserve what they get
Edited on Tue Sep-19-06 02:45 AM by Ignacio Upton
(And to any lurking conservatives, fuck off, I'm still gonna post this thread, and I don't care if Michelle Malkin quotes me. I'm unrepetent about what I'm going to post.)

The fact is that there is a correlation between Bush's job approval and gas prices:

I'm sorry, but out of all the things to blame Bush on, gas prices should be about #4 or #5 down on the list. For the record, I'm skeptical as to whether or not the price decline is market manipulation. I believe that the end of the summer driving season, combined with the lack of bad news going on right now is pushing prices down. There are also such things as speculative bubbles, and it wouldn't surprise me if the bubble just popped. (The only convincing arguement for market manipulation is the fact that some states with close Senate races have lower gas prices than others, but not every competitive state is like that, as Montana and Washington State have competitive Senate races, and yet their gas prices haven't declined sharply.)
However, of all the things that voters should hold against Bush, gas prices is ridiculous.

*This is the same President who has pissed off voters since winning his 50+1 "mandate" by trying to pervert it as a mandate for phasing out Social Security and destroying the New Deal.

*This is the same President who has done nothing but posturing on illegal immigration and tried to SELL our ports to Dubai!

*This is the same President who decided to jump back to D.C. from his ranch to sign a bill authorizing FEDERAL MEDDLING in Terri Schiavo's personal life, despite the fact that the courts (especially judges like Grear who were appointed by Republican Governors!) said that Terri should have the right to go peacefully. Bush pandered to the likes of Randal Terry and got burned when 70% of the public said no.

*This is the same President who presided over the disaster that was Hurricane Katrina. The freakin' Canadian special forces got to NOLA quicker than our people thanks to the inept leadership of Brownie and Chertoff. This President lied about "nobody anticipating the levees breaching" and now FEMA is dragging its feet on rebuilding and taking away aid to victims of Katrina.

*This is the same President who has led us into a quagmire known as Iraq, and DIVERTED money and special ops from Afghanistan (compromising the hunt for Osama) to do so. THis is the President who misled us by telling us that Saddam had drones ready to spray WMD's on the continental U.S., and that he had an elaborate arsenal of WMD's that only existed in the minds of the INC and Chalabi. This is the same President that proposed taking out Saddam by provoking him to shoot down a U2 spy-plane that was to be disguised as a U.N. plane. This is the same President that had Kate O'Beirne's husband make crony appointments to positions of rebuilding in Iraq, and the same President that failed to come up with a post-war plan!

To those voters who subsist on a steady diet of Faux News, American Idol, Lost, and Nancy Grace instead of reading up on what goes on in the world and trying to remember half the shit that has happened recently: FUCK YOU! If you're deciding to vote Republican this fall just because your gas dropped from $3.00 to $2.70, then you DESERVE more of the same! I try to think positively about the Bush 2004 voters who have been "waking up" over the last 22 months, but after seeing our great leader's job approval climb over fucking gas prices...I don't know whether to smash my head against a concrete wall or a brick wall.

1. This is the first election season when I've seen...
opponents use the president's support of Republican candidates in a negative light.

I see it all the time on TV.

"Would you vote for Candidate X? George Bush is supporting Candidate X? Is this the kind of leadership that's good for this state?"

That's not good for Bush or Candidate X.

2. But there is roughly 5%-10% of the electorate
That changes their opinion of Bush once gas prices go down. Job approval can determine how voters feel about electing their people to Congress. Republicans tried to link every Democrat to Clinton during impeachment, and yet they lost seats because Clinton's job approval was sky-high thanks to the booming economy.

3. Press the attack.
This is a strong tool for them.
It is obvious to everyone but the Bushnik core what's going on, too.
This can't be helped any more than the massive price spike due the second week in November.
This behavior on the part of Big Oil also proves the need to develop additional energy sources not currently under their control.

4. What they forget....
At the same time gasoline prices were rising, so were prices for anything made with petroleum products, as well as food. I know the price of food has not dropped.

The lesson has been interrupted to dust off the gas hogs, and make that out of the way, extra trip to get something special for dinner. :eyes:

6. The Gas is going up again next year
If these lug heads think Bush and the oil companies are doing us all a favor they must be insane! Next year or when it expedient for them AFTER the election..the price of gas will be going up again.
