He's Going To Disgrace Us Again Tomorrow, You Know He's Going To Do It
Edited on Mon Sep-18-06 03:41 PM by ThomWV
Bush will speak before the UN General Assembly tomorrow.

George will be representing the American people; you, me, our parents, our children, black, white, brown, yellow, red, Jew, Christian, Muslim.

He will disgrace us. You know he's going to do it.

He will lie, he will distort, he will cherry-pick facts and mix them with fantasy and he will do it in the faces of some of the most intelligent and ruthless people in the world. His speech will be interpreted into many languages at once; anyone who wants to hear it and know what he said will be able to. And the result?

He will disgrace us. You know he's going to do it.

6. The uncle that everyone secretly dreads, and tries to avoid any
contact with? Yep, that's our George.

5. I don't think so . . .
Bush wouldn't want to be accused of gassing his own people, would he?

a little something like the United Nations stop him?

2. I feel sorry for the translators.
Anyone who can turn Bushspeak into coherent sentences must be part psychologist and part psychic.

9. Good point. How does one translate "umm"? If * could not use that he
wouldn't be able to talk at all.

10. If I was translating, I would NOT attempt to make his sentences coherent.
I would translate the mistakes as best I could to represent them in their natural form - in other words, I would do my job.

13. I see your point, but professional translators don't always...
Edited on Mon Sep-18-06 03:58 PM by Kutjara
...make word for word translations of everything said, because certain idioms and turns of phrase have no direct equivalent in different languages. So the translators have to use the closest local idiom that carries similar meaning. That must be tricky enough when the original speaker is intelligible. When it's Chimpy, however, the translators must have to put his words into the context of a kind of idiocy with which the listener is familiar. That seems pretty tough to me.

16. What Funny Little Man From Texas?
Oh, you mean Junior, the Connecticut Cowboy. Got his first pair of boots at a cute little shop next to Andover & his first cowboy hat from a place near Yale...didn't discover his "Texas roots" until he discovered that the Texas Air National Guard was infinitely more bribeable than the Connecticut version...

he WON'T disgrace us at.

But then again, I guess we wouldn't have a dang thing to talk about.

their individual and collective intelligence insulted by * speaking to them: First time he mentions "terror" or "terrorists", they should all start banging their right shoes on the desks in the spirit of Kruschev.

27. It's billed as a speech on the need to impose US democracy
on the world.

Everyone in the US knows that then means the speech ISN'T about democracy but rather is about making the world safe for corporate plundering. The R's have been conflating free-range capitalism with democracy for decades. Cultures which prioritize other values clearly object to having to subject themselves to capitalist brigands and pirates. This speech will win no new friends.

30. We should fax ahead our disowning of anything he says
I mean, just for the record.

These days, as long as he doesn't slur his speech, misuse a grammar school level vocabulary word, or
put the moves on the German Chancellor, I figure we're ahead.
