Break out the Kleenex... Clooney Made Abramoff Daughter Cry
Edited on Mon Jan-23-06 01:38 PM by Blue Belle
And now from the "Are you fucking kidding me?" department:

http://apnews.excite.com/article/20060123/D8FA3VIO2.html

Dad: Clooney Made Abramoff Daughter Cry

<SNIP> The father of disgraced lobbyist Jack Abramoff says George Clooney's off-color joke about his son's name during the Golden Globe Awards made the lobbyist's 12-year-old daughter cry.

In a letter to Clooney posted Friday on the Web site of The Desert Sun newspaper in Palm Springs, Frank Abramoff said he was astonished by the actor's "glib and ridiculous attack" during Monday's televised program.

"Your words were deeply hurtful to many innocent and decent people," Abramoff wrote. "One day the truth about my son will come out and there will be a lot of people in your industry and others lined up to apologize for their efforts to destroy him and our family."

<SNIP> Clooney's father, Nick Clooney, told the newspaper: "I understand what it is like to have one's son criticized in a very public way. It's very painful and it's very difficult."

He added, "The difference here, and it must be said, is Mr. Abramoff's son, instead of pursuing some positive efforts to do what he hoped would change the climate of the American politics, has confessed and has been convicted by that confession of subverting the political process."

I wonder where Abramoff's father was when they made off color comments about Chelsey Clinton or Amy Carter?? Perhaps he needs a lithium chaser with his koolaide. :eyes:

30. She must be very experienced for her age

that one should have gone way above her.

In order for her to have a clue what it was about, her parents - or some others - must have really schooled her.

Maybe Paris Hilton is her running buddy.

3. What's the little girl's name? Jackie Abramoff?
Or is the brother
Little Jack?"

I'm sorry, but I thought Clooney could've been a lot more vicious-- considering his target.

That little girl is going to have to learn to live with her father's crimes. George Clooney's joke is the least of her worries.

But for Abramoff's criminal activities, Clooney would not have made such remarks.

Yes?

he wouldn't have committed criminal acts against the nation.

He obviously has little regard for his kid or his father. No sympathy from me. Everyone has their cross to bear. If I could speak to Papa Abramoff I'd tell him to get counseling.

29. Indeed .. and actually I'm personally opposed to that practice.
I regard such name-changing as sexist and a vestigial custom of the days of slaves and chattel - days when women (chattel) couldn't own property in their own name and couldn't vote.

But, as I'm often reminded on DU, I'm somewhat "abnormal" in my strong aversion to sexism (of any kind!). I regard lipstick as a sexist fashion - hearkening back to the days when courtesans in France used it to make a ring around a client's 'member.' I regard high heels as sexist and unhealthy, originally designed to amplify woman's calf muscle and suggest love-making vigor. I'm thankful that corsets and girdles have retreated in fashion - they were obscene, imho. I'm often bemused that women who claim aversion to being regarded as a "sex object" have fallen victim to such crap and are so completely unaware of the social ("fashion") brainwashing.

33. Here's another snippet of the story from IMDb.com
http://www.imdb.com/news/wenn/2006-01-22/

<SNIP> George Clooney has come under fire from disgraced US lobbyist Jack Abramoff's family, after poking fun at him in his Golden Globes Best Supporting Actor acceptance speech on Monday. The movie star joked, "Who would name their kid 'Jack' with 'off' at the end? No wonder the guy's screwed up," which infuriated Abramoff's father, who was watching the awards show at home. Frank Abramoff has since fired off a letter to Clooney via newspaper the Palm Springs Desert Sun, accusing the actor of being "glib and ridiculous." Abramoff's father says, "Your glib and ridiculous attack on my son, Jack, coupled with your obscene query as to the choice his mother and I made in naming him brought shame and dishonor on you and your profession. What drove you to this lapse in lucidity, I can never know, but you need to know that your words were deeply hurtful to many innocent and decent people. Are you the heir to the dignity and greatness of Hollywood's past, or, more likely, a portent to a depressing and horrific future?" Washington DC lobbyist Abramoff has been convicted of bribery and conspiracy after admitting he bribed public officials and defrauding Native American clients.

Clooney has a lack of dignity and greatness?? If Abramoff Sr. was so concerned with the passage of dignity and greatness to the next generation, perhaps he should have started with his son. Don't start playing free and loose with the morals cards when you don't understand the definition of the word.

36. Abramoff's father is the scum who owned the sweatshops in the Marianas
Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but Jack-off Abramoff, the lobbyist, didn't exactly come from a poor background. He grew up in Beverly Hills, and attended Beverly Hills High, didn't he? He had all the advantages, and then some.

And how is it that Jack-off Abramoff had all these advantages? Didn't his daddy--the self-righteous HYPOCRITE now complaining--own the sweatshops that produced clothing from the Marianas? You know, the sweatshops that Jack paid his congressional buddies such as DeLay to protect from any union activity, and from having to pay anything above slave wages? The sweatshops which had no restrictions on the number of hours employees had to work, and which were not subject to child labor regulations? Those sweatshops?

And this old fart bastard, the senior Abramoff, has the nerve to complain about GEORGE CLOONEY?????????

The horse apple doesn't fall far from the horse's ass. Apparently Jack the son is just like his dear old dad: greedy and dishonest.
