1. Sounds like a fictionalized "what if" account.
Anyone have the full text?

5. This whole Iran things scares me to death.
This adm. is just crazy enough to do something really stupid. And this run up to Iran sounds just like the one before Iraq.

I think this country will just go crazy if they move on Iran.

12. Yes....another tradgedy....that didn't have to happen....
does this administration even acknowledge the death? No because our soldiars are disposable to them....`

I can say I truely understand the upheaval in the late 60's and 70's over the Vietnam war....the only difference is that we the people support our troops and want to get them the hell out of there...

Yeah, we might have to do something if things start to get out of hand like that. Like say oh maybe martial law. And just in time for the elections too, how convenient.

Wars to win elections, a fine ole traddition

You put your Navy in
you take your Army out
you put your Air Force in
and ya bomb 'em all about
You scream out holy moly! there are loose nukes all around!
and that's how a loser wins.

You put Santorum in
You take Paul Wellstone out
You put Delay then in
to antrax lefties in the House
You broadcast more Osama
Pigman, Coulter scream and shout
and that's how it came about.

That bastard will start another war to save his own ass. Because if he doesn't, very little stands between him and IMPEACHMENT hearings in the House of Reps.

impeached.

I don't think people in this country will tolerate another war.

11. most likely scenerio
We blockade Iran's ports and in desperation they fire a few anti-ship Sunburn missiles (purchased from Russia). A couple of our ships are hit and we have a reason to escalate the war. Bush and GOP popularity goes high to rally around the flag in early November and the GOP stays in charge to send us into another quagmire.

This is the October surprise...

14. A naval blockade is an act of war
They're hoping to provoke Iran into striking back so they can convince fear driven morons to rally 'round the flag and the fuckwit wrapped in it once again.

I hate this.

But that is just my best guess at this point. We can't take on the entire Middle East.

their purpose is? Make the whole world democratic! Its almost a messianic thing - crazy and extremely dangerous - but I think it may actually be how Bush feels about himself and his place in the world.

Scary stuff we are dealing with here. They really could get us into another World War.

23. They are still trying to make up for their bruised egos in 1979
It is a honor thing above all else, with the second thing being easy money to be made by having full control of Iran's oil and natural gas deposits.

26. Funny you should say that. That is one of the major reasons Germany
got back into WWII - bruised egos from the first world war - and a deep need to reassert their national pride.

Didn't work for them and won't work for these guys.

28. The majority of the people are sick of Iraq and Afganistan and
say that the costs in blood and money have not been worth it.

That makes is almost a damn certainty the maniacs in the bush** admin will do it.

But I think it'll happen after the elections.

29. This is simply a "what if" scenario, and...
not an actual directive.

I assume everyone realizes that a war with, or even a blockade of, Iran closes the Strait of Hormuz, and bottles up every drop of Middle East oil not going through a pipeline.

Think of gas prices then.

36. My question is "How will Iran and the world respond to a blockade?"
At this point a naval blockade seems obviously in the works. I expect a blockade of aviation as well.

Both will test the territorial control of the Iranians and very likely be structured to provoke open hostility by creating a climate in which the US can claim honestly or not that it's been fired on.

The world should very well see this gambit on the chessboard of the Great Game. But will they be able to prevent it's implimentation?
