THE "NUMBER" IS 2684 THIS MORNING - HORRIBLE DAY IN IRAQ
www.icasualties.org/oif/

The list of security events in Iraq for yesterday is just awful. Sure looks like a full out civil war - even tho we aren't supposed to call it that.

It is getting so bad that we are even seeing it on the front page of the KC Star. Usually its on pabe 14 or 16.

And all of this misplaced outrage over the Pope is really stirring things up. There is just so much anger and distrust right under the surface in all of the Middle East countries - doesn't take much to spark something really big.

1. Yet the media in my area is reporting none of it.
Only if the Green Zone takes a hit will anything get reported..................

sectarian violence! We've got to get our terms right here! :sarcasm:

I disagree that the outrage over the Pope's comments is necessarily misplaced. Thinking that the Pope has a lot of global political clout, I believe he poorly chose a few of those words to say now. He most certainly is astute to knowing how a few words can change listeners' direction....why would he choose negative words while the middle east is a tinderbox. He knew what he said would be regarded as inflammatory. What was his purpose?

4. I have no idea what the pope was up to.
But he should have known better. Its not like this hasn't happened before. Next there will be a billion dollar price put on his head.

20 Jan 2009, of course who ever takes the mantle will keep the troops in Iraq is not going to have the troops home the next day. After all the next President (regardless of party) is not going to have the moral courage to withdraw immediately and be tarred with the epithet of "The One Who Lost Iraq"...
