What kind of interview was that? (Laura Bush on Today Show)
Was that supposed to be an "interview" that Meredith Viera just did with Laura Bus on the Today show?

No kind of critical thinking or serious questioning, IMO.

The worst part was when Meredith asked her about the Bush clan's new found relationship with the Clintons. And then Meredith mentioned that Hillary Clinton called Bush's presidency The Fear Factor. And Meredith said if someone said that about HER husband, she'd want to punch them!

Do these morning shows have any value now?

1. Did they ever?
The last one I watched was when Jane Pauley (sp) started her career. I was a child at the time.

2. They probably want to set off a cat fight between Laura and Hillary.
People love to watch a good televised cat fight; information about Bush's torture policies, not so much.

9. Actually not a cat fight, worse - that woud demean both.
Here, they gave Laura the chance to repeat what mean old Hillary said. Laura again is cast as the feminine "good wife", Hillary is cast here as the aggressive nasty person. Hillary is the snarling cat attacking the demure princess.

In terms of emotions played on - this is similar to what they did to Teresa. Teresa gave a very kind answer on the differences between her and Laura. I couldn't find Teresa's entire comment which I watched wondering why she was so nice to Laura- continued from this speaking about how she was partially defined by her work. (She ended saying something nice about Laura.)

"In an interview published in the USA Today, Teresa Heinz was asked about the differences between the first lady and herself:
"Well, you know, I don't know Laura Bush. But she seems to be calm, and she has a sparkle in her eye, which is good. But I don't know that she's ever had a real job—I mean, since she's been grown up. So her experience and her validation comes from important things, but different things."

Laura quit work in her late 20s. From the perspective of 2 women in their 50s and 60s, Teresa's point is pretty accurate. It is also certainly not nasty - in fact it's kinder than anything any of us here would say - and the last sentence quoted actually gives credit to the importance of Laura's non work activities. What could Teresa have said that they would NOT have used? There is nothing that should have caused the uproar that followed, with apologies demanded.

But no one said anything when Laura said the SBVT were justified because people criticize George. Apparantly saying Laura hadn't worked since she grew up when she worked till she was 27 years old was so bad an apology was needed - then criticized because Teresa didn't mention that being a mother (which Teresa was too)was important too, but backing people who questioned Kerry's wounds, medals and patriotism was perfectly ok.

4. Daytime TV is simply a waste of air time and energy
Put on an old movie, it would be more interesting.

5. Hillary Clinton was the only politician mentioned......
regarding remarks about Bush. What an obvious set up that is. Viera should be ashamed of herself but she won't be. Why wouldn't she want to punch the men who have said much of the same.
