Jesus Camp= Holy Crap
We have just had a bit on our news about a doco called "Jesus camp". All these little kids were looking up at a cardboard cut out of Bush*t by the american flag and crying.

It reminded me of taking history at high school and feeling sick at watching the old videos of "The Hilter Youth"

America's version of the Taliban.

edit to add a snip:

Speaking in tongues, weeping for salvation, praying for an end to abortion and worshipping a picture of President Bush — these are some of the activities at Pastor Becky Fischer's Bible camp in North Dakota, "Kids on Fire," subject of the provocative new documentary, "Jesus Camp."

"I want to see them as radically laying down their lives for the gospel as they are in Palestine, Pakistan and all those different places," Fisher said. "Because, excuse me, we have the truth."

"A lot of people die for God," one camper said, "and they're not afraid."

"We're kinda being trained to be warriors," said another, "only in a funner way."

3. "Because, excuse me, we have the truth."
No, Becky, I won't excuse you. There's no excuse for you. Furthermore, you wouldn't know 'the truth' if it stood up in your communion wine. Take your self-satisfied arrogance and tinyminded certainty and shove them both up your holy ass.

I wonder how many of these kids are getting a daily serving of paedophilia with their religion?

4. I used to go to similar camps
and I can confirm your suspicion about the pedophilia. Not necessarily at camp, but within the congregation. Straight from a "raising your hands in the air and speaking" in tongues Sunday service.

It appears that most of the leaders of this movement are over-eaters. Is there something in the Bible about the body being the "Temple of God?"

15. Looked like my senior high camp on steroids.
I grew up in an evangelical church, and that camp looked a lot like the stuff we saw and did when I was a kid.

Scary.

I will give our pastors credit: they always used military speak as a metaphor, never as reality. They never trained us on violent means and never would've thought of putting us in camo. I'm sure that my former youth pastor would be sick at heart seeing this (he and his family became good friends of ours, and he ended up leaving the church and going a different route with his life).

I saw a bit on the news about it too, didn't know whether to laugh or cry but in the end I had to :puke: talk about sickening. What kind of parents would send or allow their children to go to such a thing, they should be declared unfit!

21. I understand your negative feelings toward Christianity but
I noticed that there is very little criticism of, say, Islam and the things taught to children in their schools. this does not apply to all here by any means but there is certainly a huge increase in antichristian and antijewish bigotry on DU lately.

24. There's been plenty of anger against fundamentalist Islam.
I'm not sure which threads you've been reading, but there doesn't seem to be any more than usual. People are upset the Pope deliberately incensed already angry people and that camps like this are around our country, but they're also upset at the madrassas and fundamentalist Muslims doing this kind of crazy stuff, too.

As a Christian, I don't feel like people here are bigoted about Christianity. I feel that many have been hurt in the name of Christianity and speak out of that anger and pain. People here are mostly loving, caring, bleeding heart liberals, but they're also angry at how they've been hurt by people with a religious agenda. I can understand that, and I'm sure most Christians can.

You know how the flame burns brightest before it goes out? I think organized religion is on it's last legs and all this whacked out fundie bullshit is just a pathetic last-ditch attempt by religious nutcases to avoid reality.
