Does your health insurance have catastrophic out of pocket limits?
Edited on Sun Sep-17-06 08:29 PM by Herman Munster
For example, my policy limits the maximum out of pocket I could pay including co-payments and deductibles at $5,000 per year. Anything over that is covered at 100%.

This is a huge thing because lots of policies I see pay only 80% of hospitalization/surgery. That doesn't sound too bad until you have to have that $50,000 or $100,000 operation and are stuck with a $20,000 bill. You don't even want to think about cancer with prolonged chemo treatments and operations. That can go well over $1 million.

1. Who do you get your health insurance from?
Mine is an 80% deal.

2. I get blue cross blue shield from my employer
I think that's the only way you can get this kind of policy because they negotiate it in bulk. It also has no pre-existing condition qualification.

4. My health insurance stops all coverage at $1 Million lifetime.
Thankfully my state requires group plans purchased through employers to cover pre-existing conditions. And fortunately my car accident was prior to this employment. My husband and I together burnt up $2.2 Million in 4 years - about half of it ending up on Medicare and Medicaid. Economically it would have been more efficient to euthanize me.

My current employer has a 2 tier coverage. High risk employees are put in a different plan. He pays 50% of our premiums and pays the first $5000 in deductables. This is the only way he could even afford to hire someone like me.

A sad state when an employer has to think about turning away a highly qualified or older employee because their health coverage might cost too much.

5. Yes, mine does
but I think it's $1300. There are also no caps to what they will pay, if you read the fine print on some plans they cover a million or two and after that you are on your own. I also have a $15 copay which is reasonable. The catch? It's over $1100mo for the premiums for me and my son who will be eligible for 4 more yrs if he is in school full time.
