NDIANAPOLIS -- When federal marshals seized the Indianapolis Baptist Temple in 2001, strapping the church's leader to a gurney and rolling him out of the sanctuary, the congregation's future seemed bleak.

Individual church members bring him gifts that range from vegetables and new boots to a trip to a clothing store for a new suit and -- happily -- occasional envelopes stuffed with cash. But no checks.

ut Henry Karlson, a professor of law at Indiana University, said the current gift arrangement sounds close to a different violation of tax laws that could prompt fines. A true gift, he said, is one that comes without any expectations of services rendered.

"It becomes a factual question as to whether or not this is an active conspiracy to circumvent the tax laws, whether the parties are acting on an explicit agreement or implicit agreement that this was in fact a salary for services," Karlson said.

3. I think I'll tell my boss...........
that I can't receive wages because it's against my religion. But would he please make my compensation in the form of "an offering" at the end of each week. Now, the IRS couldn't tax me, at least according to these people. :eyes:

The IRS doesn't take kindly to people who flout their tax laws. These cretins are playing with fire.
