LA Times - "losers in the war of words..."
Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 10:56 PM by msongs
did you already think "democrats"?

a review of a book that builds on the Lakoff concept of framing - the book "Talking Right" by Geoffrey Nunberg.

The review says the book is "a long overdue call for Democrats to start talking like the populists they should be" and goes on
to show how the repubs have claimed the high ground of language by making liberal a dirty word and how repubs stick to their story which always comes back to the spurious conflict between "regular Americans" and the "liberal elite".

The author advises democrats to breathe fire into their populist indignation as when Bill Clinton said (1992) "I am tired of seeing the people who work hard and play by the rules get the shaft".

sorry, cannot link to the review int he LAT - I am reading from the actual paper which is the preview edition of the one that comes out tomorrow (Sept. 17)

might look for this review or this actual book.

1. I've been saying for years that Dems need to run on their ...
...righteous history. The high moral ground is ours. The American people are with us on our issues. Be proud to be a Democrat! Claim that territory!

2. The liberals in my town are sanitized wimps
I hate to stereotype but: They are passive aggressive and bought out by gardening projects and false profits in home appreciation.

5. Democrats have to learn to do one thing -- and one thing only -- . . .
Edited on Sun Sep-17-06 02:59 AM by OneBlueSky
in order to win their elections by landslide margins . . .

they have to learn to tell the truth . . .

(or maybe it's just that they have to DECIDE to tell the truth) . . .

about Bush, about the war, about 9/11, about the economy, about the environment, about Social Security, about everything . . . including corporate control of Congress . . .

if Democrats start talking truth to the America people, they'll win a lot of elections . . .
