I just saw a CIA recruiting ad on TV.
Have they fallen that far? Are they that demoralized. YIKES.

1. More than you think
THey announced you can now have smoked pot up to 15 times before joining the CIA.

21. I don't think that's out of desperation.
The FBI allows you to have smoked pot up to three times, I believe, and a lot of people believe that's too little. The pot thing is because they realize that -so many- people smoke pot a few times in high school or college and cutting those people out immediately decreases the potential pool of -eligible and sufficiently skilled- recruits by a ridiculous margin.

27. How are they going to know...
Whether you smoked three times and not four? I can't imagine an aspiring FBI agent lying in a job interview...

13. That's really creepy. I guess they can't recruit all the torturers
they need to intimidate the rest of us.

I wonder how much they're offering people to torture these days.

:puke:

3. They've been running for a while here in Chicago.
Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 05:46 PM by terrya
I was...sort of amazed when I saw them.

The first thing I thought of when seeing those ads was...futrue CIA employees, just don't piss off the Bush White House...

9. Of course. Stupid question. The Faux News channel.
One of our comedian friends ends his stand up act with a series of oxymorons. He closes with "Fox News".

:)

18. How's the old neighborhood???
I am surprised that it has survived my departure. Though the bars around here have Guinness. :D

23. Eh. Same.
The big news is the Osco's is now a CVS. Also, there's now a big hole in the ground on the corner of Broadway and Granville. Right next to the McDonald's. Supposed to have some condos there, but...right now it's just a big hole....

There's a bar a few blocks down on Broadway. I've met some very, very nice people there. :-)

25. I heard that a Trader Joe's might locate in that building....
The closest one to here is in LaGrange (and I have not been there yet...it's a bit of a distance). They are said to be interested in locating in Oak Park, which would be great for me. I have not yet visited the Whole (Paycheck) Foods that is just north of me.

Bars on Broadway, I miss one particular one. ;) Since I have had similar experiences to you there.

Since I am such an old-timer in that neighborhood, I remember when I was a kid the hole in the ground once housed the Wunsch Pharmacy on the corner. Someone I knew made up a little rhyme about it...

I heard a crunch,
So I had a hunch,
That Mrs. Wunsch,
Was munching
On lunch.

14. I thought they did their recruiting at universities.
I recall the experiences of seeing what opportunities engineering grads could do. High speed drug chasing boat design, among other things. It was very cool sounding stuff. If you just want to play around with toys, and ignore the rest.

I'd love to know how the ads sounded.

17. They're....kind of like the ads for the armed services.
Promising all sorts of things...adventure, seeing the world, etc. Plus they have a patriotic appeal.

20. I was approached because I'm multilingual, I think?
At Berkeley. I thought they mostly recruited at colleges, too.

26. I was appauled. They prey on the young.
Berkeley. Very cool. But I can't imagine they recruited too many there. Haha.

I found it weird to be smoking a joint with a friend at a party, and then find out they are doing CIA work.

From an early age, I have always had a strong aversion to supporting the dark side of my country's government. I remember seeing my dad take a military order at our company, and simply drop it in the garbage can. No military contracts for us. Period.

22. I think Bush would enjoy seeing the CIA ruined
As a rep of corporations he wants to see all these services privatized and under their control.

24. Agreed. The intelligence community must hate this SOB for
using them like Kleenex.

This will be PNAC's downfall -- or at least, this will be an opportunity for them to sink not swim.
