Why is the outing of Valerie Plame commonly understood as vengence
Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 11:23 AM by patrice
against her husband Joe Wilson for writing that op-ed piece (in the NYTimes?) saying Saddam probably did not try to buy uranium from Nigeria - when - Plame herself headed up CIA operations that kept coming up with the "wrong" answers, according to Cheney et al, about Iraqi WMDs, so they would have had plenty of reasons, other than vengence against Joe Wilson, to want to get rid of her and hopefully replace her with someone a little less honest.

Why is this always just explained as somekind of emotional reaction to what Joe Wilson wrote, rather than as very possible interference with the CIA?

On edit: I just remembered: It was Richard Armitage who actually FIRST leaked Plame's name, so I guess my question here has to do with, once the name was leaked, what/why did others do what they did with the fact that her name was out there?

1. Because Dickie doesn't want us to know the REAL reason
Dick Cheney exposed Valerie Plame to cover up his association with A.Q. Khan's Nuclear Walmart. Read about it here: http://s93118771.onlinehome.us/DU/AMERICANJUDAS.pdf

3. Thanks. I will read this.
I'm afraid it is going to make me feel more like everything that comes out of the Vice President's mouth is a threat. I suspect he knows stuff that no one else knows.

2. It may have been "two birds, one stone"
Plame's work was a serious interference, and Wilson's writing was a handy excuse.

10. If I recall correctly RC was one of the first from the Intelligence
community to speak up about the Iraq insanity. RA didn't come along until quite a while later.

5. Because it sounds MUCH more benign that way. She was shut down
because she was blowing the gig on Iran. She would have confirmed there were no WMDs and that's not the fairy tale they want told.

8. I don't know where this piece of information has been
in mass media. The NY Times perhaps? A few specialty publications such as The Nation. But mass media???

I picked it up from the internet originally a few years ago, so I knew she tracked WMD components around the World, but didn't know the depth of what Plame was doing relative to Iraq until I started reading Isikoff and Corn's book HUBRIS.
