What message boards are we not allowed to mention here?
I'd like a list so I can make sure I don't mention any of them.

Thank you

Bryant

1. Why Don't You Ask The Mods In A PM Instead?
That would probably come off as more respectful to the site.

3. not sure what prompted the question... but isn't this one of those
questions that would lead to a pretty blank thread - as "name removed" (for zapped posts) might seem to become the dominant poster?

4. We can't mention certain message boards here? I always thought
that was a joke. What if you're referring to something on one of them that is particularly outrageous? You can't say where you read it?

This isn't for real, is it?

18. It's to prevent board wars. People can post nasty things
about DUers at some of these boards but won't let you respond to them on their boards and the admins here don't want that crap on this board (and I don't blame them one bit).

Let's not become the sheep we crticize Republicans of being. The poster had a legitimate question.

16. please don't get yourself in trouble,
you are a valued member of the community.

And if I were to be foolish enough to post the sites that cannot be mentioned, I would be violating the rules and would at best have my post deleted, at worst, get a mod warning and be reminded of the rules. I don't think it would be a bannable offense unless I continued to post about the sites we are not supposed to post about.

The reason for this rule, as I understand it, is so that the real focus of the board is not lost in board wars. You know, the stuff that occurs when folks from one board come here to defend it or mock DU.

pmails to mods are a much better way to obtain such a listing :hi:

13. Interesting........OP
I would have thought you would know exactly what sites are not to be mentioned, go figure eh! I am sure if you were to pm the mods or the admin they would let you know which ones and that way you would not be encouraging other posters to breach DU rules which, inadvertently I am sure, your OP is doing, imo.

15. I only know of one.
I linked to an article on another board and as soon as I posted it I got a funny feeling so I edited it and changed the post and transfered the text itself and in the interim I had gotten an alert from a mod in and when she went back to delete or lock the thread, I had already removed the unacceptable link. That was pretty funny. She then PM'ed me a thank you and was really nice about it.

I think the problem with that other board was at the time, it had a whole section dedicated to disgruntled defectors from here and Kos and they were complainin' a whole lot.

because it is the perfect question they come over to "ask" oh so innocently to cause disruption so they can giggle and giggle and say see how unfair and mean and bad du is with all their sheep that follows. oh we are sooooo very clever. it is all stupid

23. I think it would be only fair for the mods and admin to post
a page of all of the sites forbidden to link to. Just so we all know up front
and there would be no confusion.

I know that I've had a few (only a few) times
that I have innocently posted a link and the post
deleted or thread locked without explanation

It's like a blind trial and error thing

Honestly, I'd just like to know up front
so I won't make those kind of mistakes

I like it here

27. Also, a list
Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 10:21 AM by Marie26
of unacceptable sources would be nice too. I know there's some sites that you can't link to, but don't really know which ones or why. A list would help people to know upfront if a site is unreliable, & prevent inadvertent violations & thread deletions.

29. Try this:
Restrictions on Linking to Other Websites

Do not post messages that give publicity to websites that have little purpose other than to smear, disrupt, or complain about Democratic Underground. Currently there are only three websites that fall into this category. Their addresses are not listed here because we do not wish to give them publicity. They are easily identified by their bizarre obsession with Democratic Underground.

Do not quote or link to bigoted websites, or websites that republish content from bigoted websites. While many of these websites are easily identifiable, some are less obvious at first glance. Please be aware that even some anti-Bush websites also include bigoted content and are therefore not welcome here.

Do not quote or link to "conspiracy theory" websites, except in our September 11 forum, which is the only forum on Democratic Underground where we permit members to debate highly speculative conspiracy theories. A reasonable person should be able to identify a conspiracy theory website without much difficulty.

Members are permitted to link to highly partisan conservative websites, provided that they are doing so in the proper context.

If you would like to know if a particular website is restricted, please contact an administrator.
