Pope 'sorry' for offence to Islam
Pope Benedict XVI has said he is sorry that a speech in which he referred to Islam has offended Muslims.

In a statement read out by a senior Vatican official, the Pope said he respected Islam and hoped Muslims would understand the true sense of his words.

(snip)
The BBC's Christian Fraser in Rome says the speed with which the Vatican has reacted shows just how seriously it views the situation.

Reading the statement, new Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone said the Pope's position on Islam was in line with Vatican teaching that the Church "esteems Muslims, who adore the only God".

"The Holy Father is very sorry that some passages of his speech may have sounded offensive to the sensibilities of Muslim believers," the statement said.

1. he aint sorry...
mudslinger (what ever the hell his name is) is a bushevik through and through - he enjoyed the lebanon debacle, just like he admires that 1/2 wit bush for his killing sprees in afghanistan, iraq and the wtc....to think these assholes do things off the cuff, yet never expose the nazipoohs to any stress, is to believe that bush was elected prez of the usa, or that anus coulter isn't an a**hole!

2. I am sorry for Pope Ratzinger

That he is spending scads of money to satisfy his own vanity and outfit himself with Prada designer shoes, that he is wasting time and energy condeming the fictional abused young man Harry Potter as "evil", that he is ignoring the real and evil pedophiles who infest his vast and wealthy religious institution, and that he is needlessly stirring up shit to exacerbate the CRUSADE VS. JIHAD sickness initiated by George AWOL Bush and the corrupt republicon christofascist republicons.

Although i have not and will not consider Ratzinger 'Pope'...

I am so distanced from Catholicism and certainly the Vatican at this point... But, I believe this choice of the Rat (zinger) as Pope is going to be the proverbial nail in the "coffin" to modern Catholicism and further incite backlash against Christianity. Sad that so many of those who, so strongly profess to be 'Christians,' can't seem to find it within themselves to practice the message of Christ.

3. As a Catholic, I'm already looking forward to the next Pope...
...and that has nothing to do with this recent issue. I've just never been pleased with this particular person being in the driver's seat.

Just my opinion.

Stuff like this:

Pope Benedict XVI has canceled the Vatican's traditional Christmas concert this year because he doesn't like pop music.

...followed a couple of weeks later by the Islam remarks makes me think we need a guy who's a little more willing to "blend" with the rest of the world. In some ways it's like having George W. Bush as Pope. He's the decider, he tells you what he likes and doesn't like, and if he doesn't like it you can't have it and shouldn't do it...and for some Catholics (such as myself) who'd be really happy if more non-Catholics didn't view our church as "The Officially Sanctioned Home of Child Molestation," this bad P.R. stuff doesn't help a bit.

4. Right.
This new pope is a mess. It's only gonna get worse from here, I fear.

What's amazing to me is that these idiots (pope & Shrub) have vast staff resources and minders. Supposedly every word is picked over. Yet their inner STOOPIDNESS just canNOT be screened out.
