1. he wants to define past torture as not being torture, with hold w/o charge
forever (this last one is also in the "liberal" McCain subsitute bill so the 400 detained at Gitmo will die at Gitmo with no charges/no lawyers/no courts allowed forever - and with US citizens included in that if they are called a terrorist - McCain also tears up the Constitution/Bill of Rights). The bill gives some rights to those in Court and the Sup Ct has ordered a dozen cases to proceed - so this is protection from war crimes in those dozen cases.

2. OK . . .
. . . but is the word "torture" used? Are the "acceptable methods" specified?

4. Yes, I undestand that . . .
. . . but what exactly does he want the law changed to say? Is this written down someplace? Does it say, for example, that waterboarding is OK. Are the exact specfics of what is acceptable torture described? Or is it something that is so vague that it allows the "professionals" (from Bechtel or Halliburton?) to do whatever they damn well please?

5. The story
I had heard, probably from KO was the men that are coming to Gitmo from the secret prisons in other countrys will be visited by the Red Cross. What they are afraid of coming out is the torture they've have been receiving, one called water boarding. This is one of the methods I believe defined in GC as being torture and against our laws. bush is dealing with a multitude of other crimes against USA and now this (NSA, etc.) He's in deep shit.

6. Here's my question about this -
I get the war crimes thing, what I don't get is who will actually do something about it?

Does he fear being impeached if the Dems win control of the House? Is he thinking he'll be prosecuted after he leaves office? While he's in office? And who would actually bring forth charges? I can't see the US bringing war crime charges against a current or former US president, and I can't see the US cooperating with a prosecution in a world court.

Any help in explaining this would be most appreciated. :-)

7. The transcript isn't up yet (look for Sept 15)
but there is a video of an interview (can't remember the guys name) on this very subject.

Explains why bush is in a rush to protect his ass. I think it has to do with the International courts.
