VIDEO U.S. Thrilled As FDR Outlines Recovery. 9-23-33.
Edited on Sat Sep-16-06 01:49 AM by FogerRox

FDR tells the nation, farm foreclosures will stop, prices will be stabilized. More jobs will be created.

“If we cannot do this one one way, we will do it another way. But do it we will."

FDR sums it up:

“Our troubles will not be over tommorrow , but we are on our way. And we are headed in the right direction.”

2. Now there is a great, great man. KR
He managed some of the brightest, strongest personalities we've had in this country since the Revolution. And he did it while maintaining an outer charm tha was quite extraordinary.

Thanks. KR

14. Hence the Business Plot to overthrow the man

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Business_Plot
The Plot Against FDR, or The White House Putsch, was a conspiracy involving several wealthy businessmen to overthrow President Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1933. Purported details of the matter came to light when retired Marine Corps General Smedley Butler testified before a Congressional committee that a group of men had attempted to recruit him to serve as the leader of a plot and to assume and wield power once the coup was successful. Butler testified before the McCormack-Dickstein Committee in 1934 <1>. In his testimony, Butler claimed that a group of several men had approached him as part of a plot to overthrow Roosevelt in a military coup. Gerald MacGuire vehemently denied any such plot. In their final report, the Congressional committee supported Butler's allegations on the existence of the plot, <2> but no prosecutions or further investigations followed, and the matter was mostly forgotten.

17. Amazing how close to Latin America-ish 3rd-worldness the USA hovered.
Isn't there a piece of fiction set in an alternate reality in which that coup succeeded and Charles Lindbergh became president? Or am I conflating two different works?

21. Most if not all coups in Latin America did at the very least have US
support.
I'm not aware of any work of fiction like you mention. But that doesn't mean much.
