There comes a point where it becomes obvious that a person is not willing to respect the rules or the moderators.

he was disgusted that he was not allowed by the admins to promote voting for third party candidates. That's in the title though - DEMOCRATIC Underground. Possibly we have lost a lot of smart and passionate progressives for that reason. We need them in the party, and on this board, but they need to be supporting the party while they transform it. Voting third party, although I did it in 1992 and 1996 (but then only because I was told Clinton would win easily anyway) seems like cutting off your nose to spite your face. It just elects more Republicans, or helps to, and does not advance a progressive agenda at all.

Carlos wasn't the guy's screen name, his screen name was something different, but he went by Carlos and that's what people called him. I remember him getting into a lot of arguments with other posters, not sure if he was banned. Muddle also got into a lot of arguments, and after I returned from one of my long breaks from DU I noticed him gone. Maple was the same deal.

the aforementioned Jiacinto. Muddle got the granite, which is too bad. I re-read some of him? in the archives and he seemed kinda cool. Sometimes reading the archives I read really good posts and find the poster, who had a star and seemed quite learned and articulate, had the granite cookie. Too bad, but presumambly they caused some trouble and were warned, but kept on crossing the line. OTOH I have seen it happen suddenly to posters with under 300 posts who cause one flame war by defending or promoting a "heresy".

There was nothing "street" about Carlos, which was part of his problem (I still remember his paranoid "I wanna buy a gun" episode). As far as "honesty," if that's a euphemism for ill-informed diarrhea of the mouth, then OK. My problem with him wasn't that he was a conservative dem (oxymoron noted); it was that he was nakedly racist and equally thin-skinned when challenged. THAT is what got him banned.

He was NEVER rude to anyone but he was attacked constantly for his middle of the road views. He was very persistent about his views though. I exchanged e-mail with him a few times and he was sincerely worried that the far lefties here would lose it for Democrats. One day he just lost it I guess and blew up and got banned. I didn't always see the reasons why but I think the mods and Skinner are more than fair here. Sometimes, I wonder how I've lasted as long as I have. It's a matter I guess of learning that if you have a point, don't get extreme or ugly about it, know the rules, and know when to back off. Also, this is a forum for democrats and like minded progressives. Some who come here do just for agitation purposes and eventually are exposed.
