Best quote from "Real Time"
Gloria Steinhem said "There are two kinds of people in the world; those who divide the world into two kinds of people, and those of us who don't."

There was one other full-on belly laugher towards the end, but I thought GS's comment said it all!

5. That got me too
and she said she needs a better writer. That in itself was sort of anti womam, do we look at someone like Keith after one of his speeches and say he had a good writer? It seems clear it comes from his heart not just his head or a good staff. Katy may have done ok on the am show but just because she's a woman she shouldn't be getting a pass for fluffin' up the news.

7. When they talked how the news people used to complain about
not enough time - only 22 minutes for news, I got an idea:

After ABC ran the 9/11 docudrama without commercials, I thought that it would be nice if all the main networks - the one with half hour dedicated to news - should decide that these programs are community services and run them without commercials.

They can always get more from the "reality" shows.

8. I don't think ABC was really trying to provide a public service.
I think they intended to run "The Path to 9/11" with commercials, but after we made it clear to them how controversial it was, they decided to protect their sponsors from our angry emails by running it without commercials.

11. Agree. But it was that bit of trivia that led me to suggest
that the half hour news "shows" should be commercial free..

9. It would be a good idea if the networks did the Evening News
...as a commercial-free public service, aiming at quality instead of ratings.

10. It would also free them
from corporations telling them what they will sponsor and what they won't. They might acutally investigate the big oil companies etc. if they aren't sponsoring the program. Maybe someday, not while we have this administration.

It's not conceivable to me that Couric has been that stifled, but...
