What's the verdict, DU? Bush's latest meltdown
Did it make him look strong or weak?

Keep partisanship out of it.

6. That's how it looked to me too...
...He must've said "we'll get clarification or it won't move forward" at least a dozen times. The translation is just as you stated: "Give me what I want or I'll take my toys and go home."

2. The tiny little bit I saw
made him look insane.

How can someone go from seemingly pleasant to very angry when he is the only one talking? Crazy man, crazy.

to crack - did you ever see Clinton behave like a spoiled brat like that? I thought for sure the Shrub was going to take his ball and go home today.

11. It made him look like exactly what he is:
Petulant, narcissistic, bullying, immature, incompetent, unable to answer a direct question, abolutely incapable of caring about anyone.....I could go on and on. I was so angry after that totally disgusting display he put on when David Gregory was questioning him about torture, I swear my blood pressure went up 100 points.

15. He's become Captain Queeg
He's lost his marbles. Yet that analogy is unfair to Queeg because the Captain served in the military and suffered from combat fatigue.

Bush is a narcissistic monster.

17. He's blackmailing America
He basically said that if we don't let him torture A-rabs then he'll stop trying to protect our country.

To ME, that's weak. Whether it bumps up his approval rating...I don't even want to know the answer. I just want my country back.

19. Can't keep partisanship out...
But let me try: In my eyes, he was the same guy who god knows how he ever got to be where he is today. Claiming one torture is better than another just because the he happens to be the one on the "good torture" side...

On the other hand, this may be exactly what some people may think. Some people do think that you can't be objective here and that we torture to protect ourselves while they torture for fun.

It reminds me of a slip he had on one of the debates, saying (forgive the paraphrasing) he opposed the international court because he didn't want soldiers to be sent there to face justi-- to stand trial.

24. I see someone who has NO clue what he's talking about.
And has his own unique form of reality. Sort of like,

Reporter: "Mr. President, what do you say to your critics who suggest you are violating the Geneva Convention?"

*: "Of COURSE the cow is white. They're trying to have you believe it's black, when it's really white. It's white, and it's the only way we can make this thing work. And as sure as the sun will rise in the west and I have gum in my pocket, there's gonna be another day. And there will be another day, trust me. How can you stand there and ask about Christmas when it's only September? Next question. No, you've had your chance, next question."

I am not sure that is a non-partisan reply, but fairness is not a virtue Bush deserves. :-)

because the RW blogs are all clamoring about how he "kicked ass" and "showed 'em"

I've read very few negative reactions from them.

It's like we are in Bizarro World. Yet again.

Edited on Fri Sep-15-06 11:39 PM by ZombyWoof
Because I have not seen those blogs, but it looks like I predicted accurately that they would see his anger as strength. Fascists respond well to anger. They love displays of rage and abusiveness. It makes perfect sense that this would embolden his base.

Although Bush is stupid, he is also very cunning, and I have no doubt his tantrum was intentional. Intentiomal or not, he is off his nut, and flailing in desperation. He will gain back some of the good will he lost in the past year from the softer edge of his base - the 10% or so who make the difference between a 35% approval and a 45% approval.

30. He is beginning to look scared of NBC reporters to me
He came off the same way with Matt Lauer earlier this week. Now David Gregory has clearly gotten under his skin. Tim Russert challenged Cheney on Sunday. And don't forget Olberman's righteous smack down on 9/11.

He appears panicked and anxious because he has lost one of the media outlets.

edited to add: She has probably never voted for a DEM candidate in her life. Her husband was a state legislator. She shuddered just telling me about watching bush on tv today.

36. Shrub honestly believes that he is our "king" and that no one has the
right to disagree with him about anything. He thinks he should be allowed to do ANYTHING he wants -- he can spy on who he wants, he can torture if he wants, he can invade countries if he wants. After all, he has been "elected" king.

When someone stands up to him, the king feels threatened and must put that loyal servant in his/her place. I honestly believe that junior is not right in the head...there is something going on in that little pea brain of his that just ain't right.
