Ex-student missing 10 years sues city, school district

PITTSBURGH -- A woman who ran away as a teenager and lived for a decade with a school security guard sued the city and school district Thursday, claiming they failed to fully investigate her disappearance.

Tanya Nicole Kach, 24, came forward March 21 and told police that she had been living in Thomas Hose's house for 10 years. Kach told police that Hose, 48, kept her in a bedroom in the small, two-story home where he lived with his parents.

Thanks for that, though. I've made my share of message board mistakes, some FAR more embarrassing than THAT. Hah. Once I made a mistake and apologized, saying, "I misunderstood what you were saying and I concede your point." Then some ASSHOLE who hadn't even been in on the discussion came in and said something like "It's not a fucking TENNIS MATCH" and then reiterated the problems with my error to me (which I had already acknowledged), like 10 hours after the discussion had ended. Geez. Can't win for losing, sometimes.

7. If the school contacted authorities, they're clear.

Schools are not police stations. Whoever was her legal guardian holds responsibility for her outside of school property.

The school has no jurisdiction to break down doors and search for missing children. Nor should they.

It's gonna be tough to sell: 14 year olds are close to legal dropout age.

The school would be liabel if she asked them for help and they refused. But kids move away all the time, and they can't be expected to hire private investigators every time a child stops coming to school. If the guardian didn't contact school when she went missing, they'd never know.
