Iraq to Seal Off Baghdad Next Month
Edited on Fri Sep-15-06 05:05 PM by spanone
Now there's your democracy in action!

I can't wait to vacation there! :sarcasm:

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Sept. 15 — The Iraqi government plans to seal off Baghdad next month by ringing it with a series of trenches and setting up dozens of traffic checkpoints to control movement in and out of the city of seven million people, an Interior Ministry spokesman said today.

27. Flood the trenches, build a drawbridge, and wall the city
and Bush can have himself a fine Crusader's castle and fortified city in the Middle East, just in time for his retirement.

4. They're so lost that they've resorted to repeating tactics used on Falluja
Edited on Fri Sep-15-06 05:08 PM by Selatius
That city is now little better than a prison complex now, but US forces are still under daily attack by angry inhabitants. In other words, it didn't work, and now inhabitants are worried the US will try to pacify the city again...for the third time. Now the US and the puppet government want to repeat the same tactic with Baghdad. This should really win the hearts and minds of the population.

12. You need "papers" to move around in Fallujah
Edited on Fri Sep-15-06 05:26 PM by Selatius
You have to submit to biometric scans for identifcation, full body searches, and you have to pass through checkpoints to get from one district of the city to another and from outside-in or inside-out. You basically need permission to move. This is supposedly for the Iraqis' own good, but it's just making them compare the US occupation to the Israeli occupation of the West Bank, and it's not stopping the attacks against US troops.

6. When I first heard that ShrubCo wanted to bring democracy...
...to Iraq, I foolishly thought they meant modern democracy. Now I understand they meant the Greek democracy of 1000 B.C. The Shrubs are trying to recreate city states.

14. This is VERY bad.
They lost control - sure explains those weird deployments last month - explains a lot of things.

They seemed like desperate attempts to gain control -

Guess they were.

16. The Battle of Baghdad
Sounds very similar to Afghanistan under the Soviet occupation. All they "controlled" was Kabul itself before they left.
