There is a very old joke:

A beatnik is walking down the street snapping his fingers continuously. A guy stops him and asks, "Why are you snapping your fingers all the time?" The beatnik answers, "To keep wild elephants away." "That's ridiculous!", says the guy. The Beatnik replies, "Oh, yeah? You don't see any wild elephants around do you?"

The same reasoning seems to apply to Bush's justifications for torture and kangaroo courts. If he isn't allowed to use torture, imprisonment without trial, and kangaroo courts that withhold evidence...we'll be overrun by wild elephants..er..terrorists.

2. I've heard that in a different way and always think of it when some fool

says Bush keeps us safe because there hasn't been a terrorist attack since 9/11. If there is another attack before Jan, 2009, how will they blame it on Clinton and how will they be able to say Bush keeps us safe?

Bush helped them along by saying we are not safe yet but we are safer than before 9/11. He gave them the out they need. Still I don't see how they will blame it on Clinton unless they use the path to 9/11 thingy again.
