David Gergen on CNN now -- secret evid & death could happen to Americans
if we can do this in these military tribunals, is the argument that John McCain and others are making.

Gergen says Bush came out "belligerent."

1. Gergen tends to tilt Republican. For him to be questioning this
president as he has lately is encouraging.

Bush was belligerent. Good word for the kind of behavior Dubya exhibits in these pressers.

3. Tilt? He worked for Nixon.
Sorry, I'm just pissed about President Pissy.

I didn't mean to be snippy.

4. Yes, but also for Clinton. But over the years I find him rushing to the
defense of Republican initiatives, so I'm happy to see him take a swipe at Dubya lately.

He could even do it a lot more!

And yes -- I don't blame you one bit for being pissed at that press conference. It was a horrible embarrassment.

13. Gergen Is Most Definitely A Republican.
However he is, and to my memory always has been, very pluralistic. I respect him greatly.

16. Gergen's not a bad guy
Yes, he is a Republican, but he's also very straightforward. Instead of ridiculous talking points and marching orders, he calls it as he sees it. He's credible to me.

19. He described himself as a moderate Republican on Colbert Report
"passionate moderate," even.

He's a dying breed....nearly extinct.

2. Potato Head Russert said Bunnypants was "animated".
I just wonder how much of this press conference will be shown on the network news programs tonight?

There is no do doubt in my mind now that Bunnypants has completely lost the biscuit...

14. I watched it too, madokie between loads of laundry.
I always thought that there would never be a President worse than Richard M. Nixon, but Bunnypants has him beat hands down...

5. Toobin on CNN just reiterated "secret evid and execution" worry
....and said no court in the land would uphold such.

Plus he said Article 3 has not been so vague that the US could not abide by it since its creation.

So the only one that does not get it is Bush.

7. The nation needs to be reminded that if genocide of the Natiive Americans,
slavery, concentration camps for Japanese, persecution of the Chinese, Irish, and other nationalities, Joseph McCarthy, J Edgar Hoover, Nixon, Oliver North, Negroponte, and a few other evil events can happen, then those evils can run amok too. Why should we take a liar's word that he means no harm. We've done terrible things to ourselves in the past, all in the name of freedom and justice.

8. The right wing is always able to project like this when it ...
comes to the second amendment. Any law passed is seen as a slippery slope and an erosion of gun rights. Why can't they see it's the same way in this case. You give them an inch and they'll take a mile.

12. I stopped wondering about that long ago.
Having a gun and not needing it is better than not having one and needing it.

Not just the right wing, considering that only half of gun owners are repubs. But IMHO gun owners should see themselves as being a potential target of these 4th amendment violations someday, because it wouldn't take much for owning the wrong kind of gun to become classified as one of those "terrorist" crimes...

The Jose Padilla case actually generated a LOT of concern on the High Road, a gun board I frequent. Specifically because this guy is an American, detained without trial IN America, for ALLEGEDLY plotting to commit a crime that the government later decided he didn't actually plot to commit. Under the right political circumstances, that could happen to most any of us here.

22. Right Wing: "They came for the 4th Amend ment and I said nothing. They
came for the 1st Amendment and I said nothing. Then they came for the 2nd Amendment. And there was no one left to speak for me."

Why don't they realize that it is the authoritarians, the ones who crave control, the radical GOP, who will ultimately take their guns.
