My LTTE about GOP corruption and the K Street Project was published!
It was published this Sunday in the Durham NC Herald Sun. There were also LTTEs about the Downing Street Memos, The Nomination of Extremists to the Supreme Court and one scathing LTTE titled "What Conservatives Do". Things are looking up. Here it is:

GOP's corrupt culture

The GOP in Washington is caught up in a lobbying scandal of unheard of magnitude and now many GOP senators and congressmen are calling for "lobbying reform." It's ironic to hear these words coming from their mouths. After all, it was Newt Gingrich and Tom DeLay who "reformed" lobbying back in the 1990s when they started the K Street Project which forced lobbyists to give money to the GOP and to hire Republicans if they wanted the GOP-led Congress to pass their bills. This practice, which continues today, is the big reason why lobbying money has gone to the GOP so heavily of late, and amounts to extortion by our elected leaders.

Now that they've been caught with their hands in the till, they want to "reform" the system yet again. The real reform should come in November and should involve removing the GOP from power. Their culture of corruption and dishonesty has to be ended and we cannot count on them to police themselves.

2. NC is traditionally red but Durham is a college town
Duke and UNC (actually in Chapel Hill) are just a few miles apart. College towns tend to be a little more liberaly than the sticks, which describes most of North Carolina. We live out in the boonies north of Raleigh and it's redder than Santa Claus' shirt. My bumper stickers on my truck get plenty of dirty looks but more than a few thumbs up as well.

5. Thanks, K Street Project is something we need to keep hammering home
The general public doesn't realize just how corrupt the Republicans have been. If they knew about the K Street Project and how the entire party was involved, the GOP would be history.

6. I agree the GOP so corrupt.
That seems to be all they are. It seems like an overwhelming task to wake the public up. It seems to me that the public just doesn't care.

I'm glad that you are more optimistic than me that something can be done.

7. This crop of Republicans is incompetent, corrupt, and dishonest.
It's starting to show. People are waking up. Each day brings fresh horrors - today it is Halliburton giving bad water to the troops in Iraq. Drip, drip, drip.

8. But if the Democrats had done just one thousandth of what the GOP does...
There would've been hell to pay. We would never have gotten away with all this.

11. Yeah, if this reflects opinions around the country, people are waking up
I hope we can get people pissed off by November. Rove this weekend made it very clear that the GOP will be running during the elections on national security and the economy. We need to make them run on the corruption issue. If they are constantly defending themselves and people lose trust in them, they will lose the argument every time. If they cannot be trusted how can you believe what they say? We can win this.
