from White House website (just updated):

they found some JAG lawyers who agree with them . . .

Setting the Record Straight: JAG Leaders Say Common Article 3 Provisions Would Be "Helpful"

http://www.whitehouse.gov/news/releases/2006/09/20060915.html

yesterday they wanted to 'Set Record Straight' with this post later in the day after their Senate loss . . .

Myth/Fact: Clarifying Common Article 3 (torture regulations)

MYTH: The Administration Is Proposing To "Reinterpret" The Definition Of Common Article 3 Or To "Redefine" Common Article 3.

FACT: The Administration Is Proposing To CLARIFY Common Article 3 – Not Reinterpret Or Redefine It

1. That's funny because he new conferences are a form of
torture in themselves.

2. Will Bush Take Questions? Has He Bought "Torture" Insurance?
Every procedure he okayed should be used on Bush first to make sure he understands what he is ordering.

Same with non-lethal weapons.

5. An old tune with spiritual import goes like this:
"Those who put their faith in fire in fire their faith shall be repaid."

(lyrics: Hamilton Camp)

(I have Gordon Lightfoot's recording of this tune from c. 1967.)

_ _ _ _ _

Pride of Man

Turn around go back down go back the way you came
Can't you see the flash of fire ten times brighter than the day
And behold the mighty city broken in the dust again
Oh God the pride of man broken in the dust again

Turn around go back down go back the way you came
Babylon is laid to waste; Egypt's buried in her shame
Their mighty men are beaten down the kings are fallen in the ways
Oh God the pride of man broken in the dust again

Turn around go back down go back the way you came
Terror is on everyside though the leaders are dismayed
Those who put their faith in fire in fire their fate shall be repaid
Oh God the pride of man broken in the dust again

Turn around go back down go back the way you came
Shout a warning to the nations that the sword of god is raised
On Babylon that mighty city rich in treasure wide in fame
It shall cause thy towers to fall and make it be a pyre of flame
Oh God the pride of man broken in the dust again

Thou that dwell on many water rich in treasure wide in fame
Bow unto a god of gold thy pride of might shall be thy shame
Oh God the pride of man broken in the dust again

....
_ _ _ _ _

The lyrics aren't a direct hit, but Babylon (Baghdad) is there prominently, and there are towers that fall, and the pride of an arrogant, dismayed leader.

8. Interesting--when you need the latest party line, just look for "myth/fact" on
whitehouse.gov.

How long have these kinds of pre-packaged doubletalk Party Line Talking Points been appearing on the whitehouse website?

10. Heh. He is responding to a WP editorial from this morning......
Judge for yourself. This morning's editorial.....

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/14/AR2006091401587.html

...Of course, Mr. Bush didn't come out and say he's lobbying for torture. Instead he refers to "an alternative set of procedures" for interrogation. But the administration no longer conceals what it wants...

Seems the WP has scored a direct hit on his prickliness and now he needs to respond.
