Bodies of 29 People Found in Baghdad

Friday September 15, 2006 10:01 AM

BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - The bodies of 29 people who appeared to have been tortured
were found strewn around Baghdad, police said Friday.

The bodies were found at different locations around the capital between Thursday
afternoon and Friday morning, said Baghdad police Lt. Thair Mahmoud. He had no
details about where exactly the bodies were found, how many locations were involved
or how many bodies were found at each location.

Many of the victims had been blindfolded and their arms and legs bound before they
were killed, police said. Many of the bodies bore signs of torture, he said.

Meanwhile, the U.S. military said Thursday that sectarian killings have surged
in parts of Baghdad not yet included in a security offensive, while bombings and
other insurgent attacks killed four American soldiers and wounded 25 in the capital
region.

Article continues with a long, long catalog of the violence.
Also, Iraq's Interior Ministry claims to have killed another
al-Qaeda #2 or #3 guy. U.S. officials remain optimistic.

1. Seems like the clean up in Baghdad didn't go as well as the
propagandists wanted us to believe.

2. So, basically its a public relations problem
a problem of appearences, don't let the fact that people are being tortured to death by the thousands every day throw you, we are winning!

3. These are the people who were supposed to be better off without Saddam
Hideous. Of all the people I grieve for since Bush** came to power, it's the Iraqis I grieve for most.

Has anyone heard any news about Riverbend? I'm so worried for her. She hasn't posted to her blog since August 5th.

4. How many souls have died like that just this year?
I'm guessing 5,000, just from observing and knowing that all we get here is lies.

5. Media refers to it as a "disturbing trend" meanwhile, Fallujah,
Abu Sifa, Haditha, Abu Ghraib, Basra, and others were minor incidents not worth discussing.

7. I forget whether these are counted by the US or not.
I understand that the types of deaths counted by the US has been changed so that there apparently is a 'core' death rate in Iraq, something like the core rate of inflation used to deceive so many in America. Are these the types of deaths being counted or not?
