Maybe.

The Ambassador says the rules say that he needs to be Dead, but they might be able to work something out.

4. The rules say that he needs to be Dead ...
... but they might be able to 'work something out'.

That sounds like something from "The Godfather"!

Better a live Colbert with NO bridge-naming, than 'something worked out' that qualifies him for the posthumous honour!

5. That's not an exact quote, so I hope...
...he was talking about changing that rule, because he waved the "fluent in Hungarian" rule, when Colbert said 2 word in Hungarian.

21. a good sport -- and shrewd!
I thought the ambassador was quick-witted and made an excellent guest. The Hungarian government would have had every right to be annoyed with Colbert for gate-crashing their contest (and also making fun of them on his show) -- but they have figured out how to turn this into a positive thing. In the past, Hungary has faced discrimination because many of us in North America associate them with "commies" (despite their heroic resistance), and because eastern Europe is perceived as poorer and less sophisticated than the west. But the ambassador not only did a great job by getting a lot of attention for Hungary as a hip tourist destination -- he very effectively turned the tables. At some date Colbert will have to feature more stuff about Hungary on his show, even if he doesn't actually end up going there -- in order to maintain his character's reputation for persistence!

16. It WAS funny!
He beat Chuck Norris, and Jon Stewart - it said "no photo available" for Jon, shortly after Stephen had shown a photo of Jon as his "Jewish friend", then Stephen says "he won an Emmy" as an explanation for not showing a photo. The ambassador was really good. Stephen's face when he said "you have to be dead" was priceless.

The people at colbertnation.com had some kind of vote-rigging thing set up, Stephen had to ask them to stop, and then they re-ran the contest, he STILL won.

Stephen and Jon are National treasures!
